Alexandira Ocasio-Cortez is a result of Trump

Been working at Amazon. good bennies, good job. The Long Island City deal was for office work, white collar jobs.
N.Y. & N.J. are constantly putting out incentives for various corporations.
This is a black eye for the State of New York, its political culture and its ability to recruit employers.
Gov Cuomo and Mayo DiBlasio had invested a lot to make Amazon happen.

New York State buys a lot of TV ads to promote NY as a haven for employers, what will they think now?

 

HQ2 are high paying IT jobs, not warehouse gigs. Dev AWS jobs in Seattle land 200k yearly and a month of vacation.

AOC's concerns were gentrification in Queens, and the almost stupidly sweet deal NYC offered, which may have both been valid concerns that could have been addressed at the city council level, but missing out on 20,000 tech jobs is absolutely not a win.

 

20,000 is not a lot of jobs for a city like NYC. It's typical of mega corporations to offer a few good jobs mixed into the general crap. The long term plan is not good work and AOC saw that.

Amazon feels that since that have money they can dictate how they are treated. They don't pay you pay them for the honor. Similar thing with sports teams and their stadiums. If it was such a good deal the city missed out Amazon would not be upset. They would just move on. Of course the will claim they will but if NYC kicks them out who else will? They know this.

They like other corporations are going to see the honeymoon period is over. America is not in love with your wealth anymore.

 

So the numbers are New York created 70,000 jobs in 2018. Equivalent to one-third of yearly job growth.

It was a tech hub. New York city already has amazon warehouses. Nobody was going to offer a billion dollars in tax giveaways for a warehouse. Amazon wouldn't have payed for a billion dollars of real estate for a warehouse. You have nothing supporting that claim other than your feelings about Amazon.

Of course Amazon was upset, it was a billion dollar deal for setting up a warehouse in the countries largest tech hub. They weren't kicked out, they left for PR. Painting the loss of so many jobs by tweet as a win is as obtuse as anything Trump has ever said.

If your threads premise is that she is the anti-Trump is correct, I was hoping that it meant she'd be well read, and pensive in decision making. Not a reactionary Trump like diva who just plays to the most extreme of her base.

 

Not that I think Trump had any influence over this matter, I doubt Bezos cares much for him. But apparently Bezos does care about how some people treat him. So he took his bat and ball with him. Like any 8 year old. All because he was insulted by a clever bartender.

As for AOC, it's no shock she can readily display utter contempt for a 1%-er trying to become a half-percenter in her back yard. She has had so much recent experience openly hating Trump (though I doubt they ever met) that shitting on Bezos was probably too easy. Personally, I think it's Bezos playing games here. I think he changed his mind about Long Island weeks ago and was looking for a reasonable out.

Amazon was expected to pay $30 billion in taxes over the next decade, which is why he was given a $3 billion discount on those taxes. What AOC didn't realize is that that $3B was a tax credit, not actual cash on hand. But that's because Cuomo didn't present it correctly and instead made it seem like Bezos was getting a fat tip just for relocating (not unheard of).

So unfortunately the $3B that Cortez was already spending in her mind isn't going to happen. So she'll have to pay for those promises some other way. I feel her pain. Look how much trouble it is for a president to scrape up $5B!!

I disagree with the title of the thread. I think the opportunity for her to defeat the incumbent presented itself without any connection to Trump. That is, until she started to campaign. And she campaigned smart; on her feet knocking on doors. While Crowley made a few phone calls and dinner reservations.

Crowley didn't get to be a many-term incumbent by pivoting on every wedge issue that comes down the pike. But the cronies who played ball with him didn't know the bartender. Who did she know? Almost every voter in the district. And not just at the watering hole.

I'm now ready to see a stripper run for senate. Just putting that out there.

 

Bezos was a chump on this one too, he could have just offered to do some free tech training in Queens, and before you know it, woke people would find a new thing to be outraged at.

I know not every Fox viewer is this hardcore racist. But, I do see the same fear the white English speaking American will be taken over rooted deeply in Trump voters who are all AOC haters.

 

Her crappy politics aside, I find it very questionable how the media has given this rookie congresswoman such a rock star level of fame in such a short period of time. There've been plenty of congressional upsets and underdogs in recent history where someone from out of nowhere wins a primary, but they never got even close to the name recognition she has. She is clearly being groomed for the agenda of her puppet masters.

The right wing news sources never shut up about her. Every small detail of her life that has nothing to do with politics is mentioned. This makes people who don't watch Fox pay more attention since they think if Fox does not like her I do. She is everything they hate. A young women who is not white, and not conservative. She has a scary sounding name like Obama a not white American name. She is openly socialist in a time when calling someone that is not a bad anymore. She endorses science and climate change. It's easy to see why Fox can not shut up.

It's simialr to what happened to Trump. The hate is the reason for the coverage. She's also proposed a fantastic idea with the Green New Deal. People say she is not qualified with no political experience. Oh so like Trump which was a good thing? It's funny when the right wing shows the double standard.
