Some while ago I undertook to complete a questionnaire for Public Health England on my lifestyle when it comes to exercise, diet and weight etc. I passed with flying colours except for one area in their eyes ie alcohol . I don't drink alcohol during the week but I consume around 4 pints of Real Ale on Saturday and at the most a further 3 pints on a Sunday when we go out . The latter isn't very often . So my normal intake is around 4 pints per week . No shorts or anything else . I got a snotty comment from them that 70% of the population in England drink far less than me ! I still get reminded in my E mail box to cut down . Really is 4 pints that excessive ? Isn't one allowed to socialise and enjoy themselves for just one night a week . I accept some of you guys and gals who are serious about fitness ,body building etc may not touch alcohol at all but I don't consider myself in that category . So I will be interested in hearing your comments.
No it's not excessive. By UK standards, as you know, it's quite the opposite. I drink far less, almost never, but that's because it affects my mood negatively. There was a study a set of twins did.. Doctor twins, I think.. One drank his weekly quota all in one go and the other spaced it out over several days, to see which was better or worse for the body. But I cannot remember the outcome.
Probably the former was worse as they are trying to get me to drink during the week to space it out. This sounds slightly hypocritical to me as in their other advice they give, is not to drink during the week. It makes me wonder where the sampling comes from . Just wondering if they go around Islamic mosques as they are not allowed to drink alcohol.
Drinking can affect moods . In some people it can make them a little slower and more friendlier which is positive. In others it can make them aggressive and in some cases start fights etc.
If I don't drink at all and then get a bit drunk, say, twice a year, it feels okay and kind of fun. Regular drinking, even if under two pints, it changes. I actually feel my whole mindset go a bit darker, more negative. I start thinking nothing feels okay. Paranoid. If I keep drinking regularly, or get really drunk, yeah, I'm likely to be a violent nightmare. Haha. This is why I hate the culture around it. No one really talks about how it ISN'T the same for everyone. "A few drinks" ISN'T harmless for everyone.
I think those health surveys generally just try to rope you into paying their doctors for whatever they can get you for, including alcohol rehab if you're an alcoholic, which by their definition is "a person who has tasted alcohol."
I have a few drinks most days. Then I'll not drink for a few days, then I'll have some more. I'm rarely drunk though, unless I'm out for fun or such and sometimes 3 beers will last me 5hrs. Then sometimes I might pound them down a little quicker. Who knows. Who cares.
I don't drink. I prefer not to after having images of my late natural mother drinking beer as though it was cordial. She would drink it via a slab a night.
No, 4 pints isn't that much. I think alcoholism is more of a brain thing anyway. Like when you start drinking and you don't have control over how much you drink after that--you can't just stop.
4 pints a week is a problem lol.... im probably closer to 20, and im a light drinker. guys i know flirting with alcoholism are more like 50+ pints a week, or are downing a 40 of whisky night.
TBH I don't drink for the alcohol . For me and real ale its all about the taste and enjoyment of the drink .But public Health England still think that is too much!
Lol that's like saying "I smoke weed to help me sleep" pfff yeah right ya fucken bong head. Get anotha rip intya cobber.
