"Late term" (generally defined as an abortion past 24 weeks) abortions make up 1.3% of all abortions and are only done out of medical neccessity. Obgyns conduct genetics testing at 20 weeks precisely so a woman has a chance to abort before 24 weeks in the case of a fetal abnormality

I've been doing some digging, i'm not 100% positive but thus far I havent found any proof that abortions are ever performed after 24 weeks for fetal abnormalities unless the life of the fetus and the mother are in danger, in which case it becomes a lifesaving medical procedure versus an abortion

I agree there is an ethical debate to be had (i'm of the opinion that no one has the right to force anyone to sacrifice their life for another being. And as a woman I empathize wholeheartedly with any woman placed in that soul crushing situation) - but I dont think the debate has any place in government. It is a debate that should be contained among the medical community. These old congressional geezers have no medical background and frankly they're too ignorant to be passing laws that restrict a woman's medical access

 

Yes, I think it's only fair in such situations for the "pro-life" states to assume a commitment to support the mother and/or baby for life.

I'm afraid watching this will encourage thinking people to favor abortion. I think these dudes would have been excellent candidates for that procedure. if only their moms knew what was coming. Seriously, why would anybody watch this crap when they can find analyses of equal or superior depth in the locker room of any gym. "Abstinence is the preferred solution!" Does anybody seriously believe these meatheads practice abstinence? That's for the women to practice. To their credit, they also allow condoms, and characterize conservative opposition to same as "not a mainstream view". Their main argument though seems to be that back in the day, the laws against self-abortion and back-alley abortions were rarely enforced against the woman, if she survived, and that it would be better to take the risk (to the woman's life ) than continue the current "killing spree" (of fetuses). But the Alabama law imposes potential penalties of up to 99 years on physicians performing abortions--decades more than for rapists. Closing the clinics would leave the woman on her own to do her own abortion or get some sleazeball to do it, at the risk of their lives. These guys think the women should have thought of that before they got knocked up. In the case of rape or inces t, that doesn't work too well, and the Alabama law doesn't make exceptions for that. Such laws unnecessarily intimidate and shame women. Dr. Daniel Grossman, M.D., lead author of the position statement. by the American Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, says “Many physicians can still recall a time before Roe v. Wade when thousands of women died each year from attempting to self-induce abortion. This is one of those uniquely human issues. People have been ending pregnancies since well before the pyramids. Laws will never change this, but the people making these laws know that. Their purpose is not an attempt to end abortions, it's a way to inject control where they had apparently lost it (or never had it).

For the moment, they say they will not prosecute women having abortions at all. Mighty white of them eh? (and no, it's not a racist phrase, so stfu).

What they do say is that they will be going after people who perform abortions. This is the most interesting part of the whole issue really. It's a reaction, as slow as one might expect from politics, to the wholesale abortion-to-baby parts pipeline. The "Oh, but it's for research" bullshit isn't an adequate way to explain this. It's a cop out. Or at least, that's how it's seen by many.

Regardless, the way this is written means the abortion industry in Alabama will have a muzzle in the form of oversight. I guarantee there's a cash path.

Ultimately it's the state flexing muscle and letting the world know who is boss. But I doubt abortions will ever be ended there.

It was interesting to see the race card come into this issue. Because all the votes in Alabama were cast by "old white men" (the scourge of modern humanity). Any idea why nobody else gets voted in there? That's where to look. Bitching about it after the fact is just pitiful.

 

Just read a article on FB from a rape conceived baby that said she didn't deserve to die for her father actions... And it kind of make sense. But still, I feel embrio up to certain age really isn't conscious life yet.

 

Because it's not your body. I would figure a Libertarian would understand the concept of personal freedom. All you did was enter this body you do not carry the results.

Once you say you have a say your say will matter more. In the end someone has to make the judgment call you seem to be suggesting you matter more. So you would infringe on anther's choice and rights. Like can you say you will do something since I say so no matter what she says? This is what happens when men have the rights you want.

Science is in line with current laws as far as when life is life. It's only a religious view that says it's at conception. If we have separation of church and state this view has no place.

Lol well depends on how good she looks in them. I'm really not worried about it. Since I love her I will respect her and want to do what makes her feel right. She's marrying me I guess I did something right.

I've also taken my own steps personally to make sure we have no kids. I'm shooting the blanks from my crotch rocket. This is how my opinion matters I guess.
