Air Conditioning Threshold

Today is one of the warmest days of the year where I am. My home just hit 80 degrees inside and I think it's perfectly comfortable. I was talking to a friend earlier today and they thought it was too hot and said that they had installed their air conditioner a month ago when temps hit 65.

As far as I'm concerned, the temperature has to be above 85 for me to even turn a fan on--something that rarely happens here. I would say 80 is my perfect temp.

When do you guys turn on your air conditioning?

My wife likes the temps around 74 year round. I could easily go 80 in the summer before turning the air in. A fan is good for me at home.

We run a fan most of the time. Usually high humidity is what makes me turn the AC on, not necessarily the heat.

I hate AC.... Have removed most of the units here and will pull the rest this year.

To me, 68-70 is the perfect temp. 80 is too warm, and 90 and above is just downright uncomfortable. AC isn't a luxury I have, and I don't much care for it unless it's really hot outside. Aside from the initial relief you get stepping into an air conditioned room after being outside in the heat, I don't like prolonged exposure to air conditioning. It's good for cooling down, but I hate spending prolonged periods of time in air conditioned rooms, especially if it's set really low. It makes you feel just as crappy as the heat does after a while.

As long as there isn't a lot of humidity in the air, I'll open all the windows and run the ceiling fans up until about 85. Unfortunately here days with low humidity are few and far between above 80 degrees, so generally unless there is no humidity my threshold is upper 70s or 80.

I have central air conditioning but I rarely ever use it.

During the heat wave we had last July when for 5 consecutive days temperatures soared to over 99 degrees I reluctantly turned on the A/C.

On a hot day the first floor is generally cool, the 2nd floor is warm, and the 3rd floor is blistering hot

77 or 78 is usually most comfortable in my house. We don't have central air, but we have a swamp cooler that works pretty well most the year. I need to bring the house back down about 2 or 3 degrees right now, but it's not too bad in here. I think I might have my dinner on the porch, though

AC goes on in short bouts around 65 if a fan isn't providing the necessary cooling.

Tonight is making me want to grab our AC from storage.
It's humid as fuck right now and I know it's just the beginning.

Hopefully tomorrow's storm will lift this crap.

It is a beautiful night here right now. I was just outside taking a few hits and soaking in the warm breeze. Earlier today was AC weather, but now is just perfect. These late spring/early summer nights are some of the best. Once summer fully sets in the humidity takes any enjoyment out of what otherwise would be pleasant temperatures.

I remember that up north. The cool thing about FL, at least near the coast, is that the summer days can be unbearably hot but the evening and night is almost always perfect and breezy

That machine is a little big, it will be nice and cool in Jerry's bedroom, bath, but that living room and kitchen will be a deep freeze. However not much you can do with a window unit, they have one setting ON/low/high. Window units are bad for the environment (not recycled freon, energy consumption )and sometimes property damage can result from them too, or fall out window and injure someone/thing.

When I'm hot I run it.

I seem to recall that when I lived in Georgia we ran AC a lot.
