Its pretty cool here today. I wish I'd gone grocery shopping yesterday...I believe I sort of assed around and did some stuff outside in the back yard. God forbid I do something like GET ALL THE LEAVES UP IN THAT DANG DRIVEWAY. I have no idea why I keep managing to put that off

Last night a poor dog was howling so pitiful on my front porch. The "porch" is really what would probably be called a stoop but its plenty big enough for several people and a dog..but its brick and cold...and when I opened the door that dog DASHED off like the wind; but, I tossed a warm throw on the brick and I can tell he slept there. He has on a collar and seems to be a tallish boxer mix. I've seen him for several days now and have advertised him on my local Lost and Found Pets on fb. He seems real skinny too. This morning early for me when I went out the front door, the dog was at the end of the sidewalk and he ran like the wind...so I went into the yard a ways - so as not to make him come close...and put out a big bowl of water and a can of dog food.

I hate seeing an animal scared and probably belonging to someone. dang

I've heard both songs, and although I used to favor Skynyrd for their guitar licks, I now prefer Neil Young. I though that Sweet Home Alabama was a little bit much the last time I heard it. Now I turn it even if it's Freebird.

Sweet Home Alabama is a good song, but I think I would agree that Neil Young was personally attacked where he was stating something well known about the history of the south. "I heard screaming..." something "whips cracking..." etc. I don't really remember how it goes. Then he gets hit with "I hope Neil Young will remember..." stuff. Wow. I wasn't alive then but if that happened today it would be a little bit different. I don't know.

beautiful day here. gotta get out into it and start working. kids out there doing dog doo duty so i can go plot the beds in the back yard. then i need to start raking some of the woodchips aside to add compost to the soil layer, toss in some flower/ groundcover seeds, and mulch back over. with any luck it will explode with growth as soon as we get a good spring rain.

oh crap. i think the toddler just escaped out the back door. see ya later

    Controversy[edit]
"Sweet Home Alabama" was written as an answer to two songs, "Southern Man" and "Alabama" by Neil Young, which dealt with themes of racism and slavery in the American South. "We thought Neil was shooting all the ducks in order to kill one or two," said Ronnie Van Zant at the time.[2] The following excerpt shows the Neil Young mention in the song:

Well, I heard Mister Young sing about her
Well, I heard ol' Neil put her down
Well, I hope Neil Young will remember
A Southern man don't need him around anyhow

In his 2012 autobiography Waging Heavy Peace, Young commented on his role in the song's creation, writing "My own song 'Alabama' richly deserved the shot Lynyrd Skynyrd gave me with their great record. I don't like my words when I listen to it. They are accusatory and condescending, not fully thought out, and too easy to misconstrue".[3]

Van Zant's other response was also controversial, with references to the Governor of Alabama, George Wallace (a noted supporter of segregation) and the Watergate scandal:
