    if i believe that there is no god, and i believe that i am god, then surely it follows that there is no me

    THE world is charged with the grandeur of God.
    It will flame out, like shining from shook foil;
    It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil
    Crushed. Why do men then now not reck his rod?
    Generations have trod, have trod, have trod;
    And all is seared with trade; bleared, smeared with toil;
    And wears man's smudge and shares man's smell: the soil
    Is bare now, nor can foot feel, being shod.

    And for all this, nature is never spent;
    There lives the dearest freshness deep down things;
    And though the last lights off the black West went
    Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs --
    Because the Holy Ghost over the bent
    World broods with warm breast and with ah! bright wings.

    Gerard Manley Hopkins

    Of course the god stuff is pretty crappy. Skilled poet with an appreciation for beautiful things though.

    "And for all this Nature is never spent..."?? The willing of the Will seems to want so much else today. The poem itself does not make me paranoid, but how does one avoid paranoia? The world seeks further horizons to start anew in, as the fragility of love washes generations after generations seeking new sources of judgment for the ... the land of the free, the land of the brave.

    Actually I'd say since classic times, a very significant amount of beautiful monuments and relics and works of art are religiously inspired.

    Stonehenge, Pyramids of Giza, Chichen Itza, Angkor Wat, Machu Picchu.

    Could probably list about a thousand paintings and cathedrals.

    So I guess reaching out and trying to understand the universe has lead to some pretty beautiful things.

    I like a lot of religious music, such as bluegrass, Gospel, and reggae. Pagan events are fun and no one tries to convert anyone. But mostly, religion is pure poison and has damaged or destroyed all good human tendencies.
