If you had the power to set the legal "age of consent", what would you do? By that I mean, would you keep it the same, lower it, or raise it? In the US, most state's AOC is 18 or something like that. Usually if both parties are under 18 then it's ok, but if one isn't and the other is, it's statutory rape. I certainly don't think children should be involved in sex, but I think there's room for the age of consent to come down, really. So I think my answer would be lower it to 15, because IMO, a 15-year-old would consent to something the same way an 18-year-old would. An 18-year-old's judgment in regards to sex isn't much clearer than a 15-year-old's, if you ask me. 15-year-olds are allowed to work part-time jobs, and start driving a vehicle... but sex they're not ready for? What do you think? Would you like to see it raised, lowered, or left the same?

I did know that. I love how that is the age of consent but they are still not old enough to vote or anything else that the powers that be consider to be adult decisions or behaviours. Insane!!!!
I like 16, only because it seems like more people would follow it then 18. But then maybe you'd have people that feel too old to be a virgin because they're almost 16... hm.. Don't make me pick =(
i say compleatly get rid of AOC and give some REAL sex ed, this stuff we got going now is just bs, it teaches nothing. i think we should have a good sex ed program that teaches what happens when you dont take sex seriously but show that it is a good, beautiful thing. restrictions will not stop people, if anything its only more tempting, this is human nature.
^^ so a 10 year old can give consent? Or an 8 year old? I don't think so! In general, here in Australia it's 17, but 16 if the other person is 17. I think that's about right. You MUST have an age below which consent is ineffective in order to protect children from predators.
I think it should be based more on the age difference than one set age. For example, I lost my virginity at 17 to a guy that was 20. I dont think thats a big deal at all, but in a state where the age of consent is 18 it would have been illegal. However, it seems extremely criminal for a 17 year old to have sex with a 40 year old.
A 15 year olds perception is alot different than an 18 year olds. An 18 year old is on their way to college, has an idea of what they want to do for a living, what they want out of life. A 15 year old is just going with the flow and doing whatever everyone else is doing. They're just starting highschool. I think the age of consent should stay the same. I think it's different in Canada, which I disagree with. You can argue that if you believe that a 15 year old is quite similiar to an 18 year old, then you can just date the 18 year old...there you go. That was your arguement. All I know is, when I have children one day I hope older men( for their own sake ) stay the fuck away from my 15 year old daughter.

I would have two different ages of consent, dependent on the age of the other person. Two 16 year olds having sex should not be a criminal matter, but someone in their 40s or 50s having sex with a 16 year old should be.
I met and fell deeply in love with my future husband when I was 14 years old - just before my freshman years in high school. Before then I had never even kissed another guy although I had been masturbating for about three years. Billy was 19 and a college sophomore. He had his share of girls before we met and had bedded more than a few. Billy had to promise my father to respect my innocense and preserve my virginity before he would allow us to date. So I vote for 14 so long as the other party is not over 19 - lol. By the way we are still married and still deeply in love.
