I actually didn't have dinner last night because I got home from training at 9pm, had a shower and went to bed. Then I weighed myself this morning. 98.1kg so 4kg down since I last weighed myself at 102ish. Happy about that but I feel I've ruined it by getting a Rockstar energy drink this morning haha. But then I went and powered through a 5km walk so that'll help a bit. But yeah I already feel like 4 days ago I needed to go down on a belt hole to now I'm feeling a little loose in that department.
Ugh. Not that it matters but just wanted to comment that when I thought about what a rockstar energy drink tastes like- or any of those energy drinks- I felt like I was gonna throw up for real. Yea I don't think that would agree with me right now at all.
Sickly sweet, much like syrup.. then feels like battery acid in the gut for a few hours afterwards. Some are nice, the flavours are fun that's what markets them I think and the cans are all spiffy and fun looking. I don't have them much but I felt like a pick up this morning, definitely not eating the energy I need.
That's what I figured. I've never had one because I don't really care for regular soda and I thought those drinks would be a sweeter, more syrupy version that would give me a heart attack.
Energy drinks are some of the worst things you can put into your body. The very name "energy" drink is a joke, since these drinks don't really give you anything more than a temporary blood sugar spike, followed by a massive crash an hour or two later where you feel like shit and need to eat or drink something loaded with sugar just to feel normal again. It's a vicious cycle, and one that has made a lot of people sick I am not looking down on people who are like this, since I used to be one of those people myself. I used to drink Red Bull all the time. Now the very thought of it makes me feel ill. I know I go on and on about ketogenic diets, but when your body runs on ketones you have steady energy 24/7, even when you've gone hours and hours since your last meal. Blood sugar is not even a factor in my daily performance. I regularly fast for upwards of 24 hours, then peddle 15-25 miles on the exercise bike without feeling like I am about to pass out. This is impossible when your body is running on glucose as its primary energy source.
I'm going to not drink energy drinks anymore. If I do, it'll be one of those small as cans... Sugar free. What's everyone opinions on artificial sweetening? If you wanna get diabetes and fat you go sugar, but if you want cancer you go sweeteners. Or so I've read.
One of my professors once said that some artificial sweeteners are like neurotoxins in the body and they should be avoided
I was drinking these aloe Vera water drinks I was getting from Chinese groceries and they were fantastic and so yummy. I asked my missus how can this just be water and she said there's sugar in it. I looked at the nutrition ratings, picked up a can of coke and made a comparison. It had just as much if not more sugar depending in the flavor. I've had a bottle of blueberry water in my eski for weeks now and I don't touch it.
Yeah I was into those for a while too then I noticed the same thing. This girl used to be my master and she would bring me one every day before she walked me around on a leash
I don't even know whats in most of these drinks. I just avoid them all like the plague. I drink a little coffee in the morning (no cream or sugar) and a few beers in the evening. Other than that, it's almost 100% water. You just get used to it. It normally doesn't even matter to me if its not cold anymore from sitting the the truck at work. I also drink protein shakes but I don't really count those in the hydration category. I make them with 100% natural, non-hormone, blah, blah, blah,.....local milk. But I look at that as more nutrition than hydration.
If you're having a beer you may as well have a coke! The worst is when you hear people say "I only drink coke as bourbon mixer" yeah cause that's justified. That's actually a way fucking worse way to enjoy coke there's heaps of sugar in dark spirits especially rum.
To each their own. I would say that if you're having a coke, you might as well have a beer... then at least you get something fun out of it. I only drink pop/soda when I'm mixing with alcohol too, and I feel I am more than justified in doing so
Or occasionally I'll mix root beer with ice cream. Otherwise don't touch soda. Didn't even like it as a kid though.
just avoid it all. Its all horrible for you. water with fruit in it is pretty refreshing. For a pick me up coffee and tea are both healthy and you can sweeten with honey for a healthy sweetener. There is also stevia although I've never tried it.
This is true -- aspartame and sucralose are excitotoxins, and are linked to a host of neurological and metabolic disorders. There are natural, non-sugar sweeteners on the market which are a lot safer (stevia, xylitol, erythritol, etc.), but I say the further one gets away from sweet things, the better off they are and the less they crave them. Unless you're drinking something like Malibu rum, which is flavored, there is virtually no sugar in rum. Of course alcohol is pure carbs, so it gets converted to glucose once it's in your body, which is why I no longer drink alcohol. But to say that rum has "heaps of sugar" in it just is not true. Rum is probably one of the better things a person can drink who is watching their weight. Beer is the biggest offender when it comes to alcohol, and probably the biggest contributor to me becoming obese. Many of the more potent craft beers are just loaded with carbs and residual sugars.
