In February 2020, not just Trump but the NATO allies as well agreed to withdraw all troops in Afghanistan within 14 months. That would have meant by April 2021, so Biden kept the troops in a couple months longer than the deadline, but ultimately he was forced to live up to the agreement. And yet he's catching all the heat for the Taliban rolling through the country faster than the blitzkrieg.

Love how all the republicans are blaming Biden for this when it was in the works for years. How many more billions of dollars and thousands of lives is the western world expected to waste in this region. Just tell the republicans that there's no more natural resources left to steal and that should satisfy them. The Afghans don't even want to fight for their own freedom. What are we going to take them all in and be like France in 20 years, with white people getting blown up over cartoons!? There is nothing the west can do but make things worse, like we've been doing for decades.

Biden just spoke. He stands behind his decision to withdraw the troops, saying 20 years was already too long and staying longer wouldn't have made a difference in the end. He reiterated there was no good time to leave Afghanistan. He reminded us the troops were supposed to be out by May 1st due to an agreement signed by Trump, but didn't dwell on it.

He said if the Afghan military lacked the will to fight then we shouldn't fight for them.

And he said 6,000 American troops will be deployed to the Kabul airport to ensure all Americans, their allies and those Afghanis granted visas will be safely evacuated, warning the Taliban not to interfere.

Finally he said he won't shrink from his responsibility in this matter but he would rather face censure for it than pass the war on to a future President.

I suppose it was inevitable that the Taliban would take over after we left, but I didn't picture it happening so rapidly. The Afghan military was a superior fighting force to the Taliban, but didn't feel their government was worth fighting and dying for.

I doubt the Taliban want to provoke us. They'll bide their time until we're done, though it wouldn't take much to start an incident which escalates.

Tragic; like so much other suffering and many other atrocities in this world that we can't do a goddamned thing about.

Donald Duck is credited with well over 4,000 blatant lies during his time in office, and his supporters would reject him immediately if he ever stopped lying. The US will stop liars from running the country, when their teachers can actually teach a child how to use a stupid dictionary, share their words, and play nice. My own survey shows almost none of them even know the dictionary contains only popular definitions, and so long as their teachers are so grossly incompetent, they might as well be in zoos.
