just a little clarification - from all the sources I've heard from, 16 is the age of consent in Canada

If I were you, I would back the hell off. Your friends were there first. A four year age difference is huge at those ages, there's still a lot of developing going on. She probably is (in part at least) attracted to you because "older guys are cool". Like others have said, there are exceptions to the rules (I was pretty mature for my age, but I didn't start dating until I was 16, and he was 15). I would at least try to get to know her as a friend first, if you're really going to go for it - make sure she is actually mature enough to handle being with you and not just doing it for status or any other bent reason.

That said, I am dating a 24 year old, and I'm 18 (almost 19)... but I'm a crotchety old woman at heart.

Federally it's 14. Maybe certain provinces are different.

ihmurria would have been right 2 years ago, but now psilonaut is right. and i don't believe provinces have the authority to make laws regarding age of consent like states do in the US...HOWEVER...when a province DOES make a law, it can't be over ridden federally like in the US.

regardless however...13 is a lil young. i remember being 15 and dating a 13 year old...she would always be puising for 'more' and i was always the one turning her down...hmmm...i think i just defeated my own arguement.
