At this time in history, people are so much at each other's face. Life in America is Republican v Democrat, capitalist v socialist, investor v environmentalist, Christian v Muslim, and conservative v Liberal. I am there for no interested in having one resident walking around with a gun and demanding all others view the world's problems and solutions according to his opinion. Rabbits could be caught with many natural ways, and a garden could be encircled with chicken wire fence.
Scratcho, I just told him in a reply to a private message that you would not leave Oregon. I got a deal cooking right now on a house in Indiana. The USDA Rural Development Fund - thanks to Trump - has no money at this point, so that idea is out for now.
Merry Christmas, Stormountainman. If only the old hippies could be getting together to raise a glass to good times!
West Virginia is very beautiful but the water wells are contaminated. If we go there we might as well move in with Mister T?
Where ever I end up I'll test the water. In Colorado we had to put 60 micron filter then a 120 micron filter then a ceramic to get pure potable water. And that was after a "good" well 350 ft deep in a rock aquifer.
I had a new pump and associated gear put in when I bought this place. We had to move everything to the basement because well pits are no longer allowed. First thing they did was get all the specs on the hole... depth, recovery time, material at the bottom, etc. Several years later I found the original drilling record... This well hasn't changed in 72 years. I'm also quite far away from any areas with "blue rock" which is what they frack oil out of.
They are getting insane. Donald Duck merely represents how extreme they are becoming, ready to kill every fucking aquifer in the name of pumping natural resources nobody needs. The more aquifers they pollute, the faster the water levels will drop everywhere else.
In eastern Colorado -east of Fort Collins- in the Pawnee Grasslands they have a problem with human coliform bacteria in the wells. The ranchers around Stoneham and Briggsdale are a half a mile apart but the contamination must have run through the sedimentary rock and soil. Fracking is all over the place there too. My friend Rubin lives near Rifle on the West Slope and you can smell the natural gas they pull out or pump out of the ground. There are wells with burning flames 24/7 for no reason at all. I've got enough stuff wrong with me at my age so I want clean pure water.
333rd time's the charm. One of them has to have a happy ending sooner or later eh'? Seemed like a potentially interesting starter pack for a community with ready made housing for a number of households which at capacity could probably figure out a way to keep the water clean.
My Iowa well is contaminated with arsenic . I suspect an artesian event . The county tests it yearly for changes . Oh , ya , I've a new vision for a community . I'm inspired enough to not be lonesome . I've an oracle to guide this . Old farts can die there in peace . We'll sing " Dig a hole , dig a hole in the meadow , dig a hole in the cold , cold ground .... so to lay little Lou Lee down " .
Always wanted to be at least partially underground. But when I die, I’ll leave my body under a tree in the high mountains, and let nature take its course. The coyotes will spread my bones.
Take a scroll at land / properties around Bisbee / St. David / Tombstone, there are some really nifty finds out there right now, friendly people and generally a bit cooler than you find in Tucson. (The Mrs I are already planning the next move to that area from where we're at now) i.e. found a 27 acre parcel with a nice sized home in need of rehab, has a well & septic already (probably need to be serviced) for about $130k, maybe a bit steep but loads of potential to do a "touch up" on the house as a commons area with anyone else in their trailer / camper etc? Just a very cool area of the state (Essentially where I was aiming to land when I came out here, better late than never eh'?)
