This is a horrible story about a family who adopted children and followed the discipline advice of a horrible fundamentalist abusive book and one little girl died because of it...not only that but the stories surrounding the kids in that situation is completely disgusting. I'm not really one to get angry but this pissed me the hell off. http://www.slate.com/articles/double_x/doublex/2013/11/hana_williams_the_tragic_death_of_an_ethiopian_adoptee_and_how_it_could.html What do you think should be done to prevent this shit from happening again? (and apparently it's not the first time it has happened)
I couldn't read all of that. I had to stop. Adoption is still an amazing thing. It's just that certain people are assholes.
I agree that adoption can be nice, but a movement of people adopting children in order to "save their souls" and force them into being perfectly obedient fundamentalist slaves is not okay. It's become something of these people feeling really good about themselves and bragging about their ability to adopt more and more kids, it's just like hoarding of animals. There's a fair number of people going into the adoption process without properly thinking it out or being in any way prepared to take these kids on as they are, they are not loving or accepting these kids or meeting their needs, they are doing it for selfish reasons. I've known people who brag about adopting kids and I just don't think in this society/culture we talk enough about how difficult it is and how prepared a family should be to adopt...you don't adopt several children at the same time unless they're siblings and unless you've done a ton of back and forth meeting and making sure you're prepared to take care of them.
Evangelical. Christian. Fundamentalist. Mistreatment. Discipline. Manslaughter. Torture. Murder. Insanity. Insanity. Insanity. Poor, poor little children just hoping for some love and affection ---and a decent life. What do they get? (see above). Those people need killed.
