No, getting elected was opportunism. I highly doubt the average countryman was thinking to himself, "I wonder which candidate would most likely lead us into massive war and help exterminate these pesky Jews" upon voting Hitler into office. I also doubt that upon his election somebody thought, "Finally! We can start gassing those bastards and weed this place out"......
well, that's exactly what the german's wanted to do. they needed a scapegoat, the jews were it. yeah, that's pretty much how it went down. after WWi, and the treaty at versailles, the germans were left in a state of economic devastation. the jews were a bit better at dealing with devastation. they kept their wealth. the germans had to take a wheelbarrow full of useless money to get bread. they found the easy target: the ones no one cared about, the jews. his entire regime was one of opportunism.
Jesus Christ doesn't count. We're pulling from history books, not fairy tales. Going to be honest, I don't know who Adam Smith is, besides a kid I went to highschool with. Hitler > Stalin. I can see that I shouldn't have been so lazy in directing my challenge.
His position of power was based on opportunism and devastation. That I agree with. Today in this country there are bad people who would love to see certain races, if not most races, obliterated. I'm still willing to bet that nobody in this world today could lead a group of people to complete genocide the way he did. It was more than opportunism though. If it were that simple than this widening gap in America between the haves and have nots would be leading to something similar.
Even the ones who agree with you don't agree on who he was. Everybody pretty much agrees to Hitlers ancestry, life doings etc. Jesus.... not so much. I'll revoke my fairy tale statement as it was pushy.... I will say though that too much controversy surrounds Jesus to claim one way or the other about his actions.
i think that, if hitler and his regime hadn't done what they'd done when they did, then yes, we'd still be willing to do it. it was only the aftermath and reality of what happened that woke people up. until then, people WANTED it. but the reality wasn't nearly quite what they expected.
Adam Smith is the founder of Capitalism. Jesus wasn't a myth. No history book 'll tell you that. Son of God? I don't think so. Historical figure .... absolutely. I don't know what you mean by Stalin is less than Hitler. He was MUCH more vicious and held at least ballpark popularity figures.
no, i just think he was a real guy, a political protestor and activist. the whole son of god thing aside, someone can't be quite that effective and nonexistant. maybe exagerrated, but not unreal. though, in fairness, i believe hercules was based on a real person, too.
The founder of capitalism I can indeed tip my hat to. In bold: Kinda why I said I shouldn't have been so lazy in my word choice. I meant to find people who met all those criteria together better than Hitler. Stalin/Hitler could probably be well debated and on a day when I have more energy, I'll probably re-state the idea to include a detailed comparison.
Oh. Sorry my bad. I'd have to put a bit more thought into picking a top ten based on those three particular qualifications. Even still though, I think there are some pretty influential people across the history of humanity. Think of dudes like Genghis Khan or Charles V or Ferdinand II.
oiy, who is on the top ten most evil?? I'm going to look them up now. edit: the first one I clicked on under a google search of "top ten most evil" had #1 stalin #2 hitler.
I figured you would've which is why I should've been more specific. I'm just sleepy today and not really in a high-level thought kinda mode. I am noting down future debate ideas though.
ooooo. is your voice all gruff and gravelly? i love that sleepy tone. it makes me wanna wake you up real nicely.
