oh yeah, my hair lol, it is thick as crap and course. the color you see was bleached that i put in to dye my hair blue but the blue washed out too fast. the longer my hair gets the wavier it gets
wtf these sites say short hair dreads better? thats total total total bullshit yewa mine started short cause its super thick but the longer the hair the better to dread unless they mean only backcombed cause its so much damn work and takes so long then yea i can see an advantage to shoert but if u got hair to mid back in a week u wuill have locks naturaly in most cases,.hair past your butt can dread overnight literaly. short hair takes the longest by far and is most dificult ..except african techtured which can dread at lengths barely visable (1/4 inch or less)
Sounds to me you and I have very similarly textured hair. What I can tell you, is that coarse hair seems to be the toughest to get to knot up. Based on my experience I would do something around 3/4" if you intend on backcombing. As for wax, I'm not going to get into it but I will tell you it benefited me in the fact that it kept things from getting too messy and it helped keep my backcombed sections from trying to gobble up their neighbors. If you want uniform, "neat" looking dreads, wax can be used properly to help you achieve that goal. Do what you think feels right. *edit, did not see the photos. Your hair looks to be less coarse than mine but it is very short. You've got some waiting to do
so wat kinda work do u do??? u say u work from home.. howd u get that job?? id love to work from home!
here we see the very beginning of the natural process knots already dsstarting genweral seperation into sections just hours or is it a day into not combing sections are starting to form lil clearer here, on the thin side maybe but would probly look best with your hair since its lil thin more dreads but thinner looks like a thicker head of dreads while thick dreads means fewer and more sparce youdf probly get a relatively low number if u went for thick ikt looks like your getting thinner sectionds on the sides with maybe 1 thicker on either side of front and the back looks like noce thick ones you already have some curls forming loops on the top now its hard to guess where this might go from here being how short it is but might be wirth just not combing a week and seening if udont get a ciouple started ion theyre own the shortness may hinder it..but..its certainly trying concidrring u stopped combuing hours ago? it looks like it would dresd fast..esoecialuy if longer sleep on it tonight, post more pics tomoro, if theres any noticable change in 1 nioght, u may wanna give it a week b4 deciding what to do.. u can already see the process starting tho
Haaa I was being saracastic about the headbanging thing. I guess now what type of music you listen to will determine your outcome Make sure you post pics...cant wait to see!!!
Wow!!! Already!!!! Damn wish I could jump in the shower and pop out with locks!!! SE you crack me up!!!
so this is what it looks like after one night, i know that everyone has said that smaller dreads looks fuller but i prefer the larger thicker ones like these watchemen starts at 1pm today so i am going to see it, once i get home from the movie, i will be making my mind up. will i wait another month so my hair is longer, will i try to do it without backcombing, how big am i going to go? to earlier right now for me to decide. i'm about to jump in the shower and wash my hair with the dread shampoo to remove all the chemicals and crap outta my hair. lol i know the headbanger thing was just a joke but there are people out there that says stuff like that so i wanted to go ahead a address it thanks to everyone
You could just wait a month either way, ditch all grooming routines besides washing and don't run your fingers through your hair too much...see what happens
and lolatronica at SE saying that dreads are trying to be born in those pics.. its wet hair, it sticks together...
so i just got a email from a guy that has some dreads that i really like. this is what the email said "Many many patient my friend! the first months the dreads will look like shit but if youre dreads are 9 months or something they will look good! use a crochetneedle, special shampoo (DONT wash youre dreads for like 3 months) and use lemon juice" and this is what his dreads look like there are so many ways to get to the final look, i have to decide which is the best for me. i prefer to start with the process today, i know that backcombing i will loose some length, the process of not touching my hair at all might help me keep some lenght but may take longer to see results. oh by the way, in that one picture, my hair was completly dry it was not wet at all. i know that you cant get a good feel of what someones hair might do when it is wet. so to make you feel better, here is what my hair looks like right now, this is two hours after drying
these were the pics i was referring too.. SE mentioned that the natural method is starting, but it just looks like wet hair........ your fluffy hair pics show it much better, but i think you need longer hair, espesh if you wanna backcomb
from everyone that i have talked to about backcombing and websites that i have read, you hair needs to be at least 3 inches to backcomb. mine is about 4-4.5 inches at the shortest. oh, and those pics, the hair is dry all the way.
if you backcomb real tight, youll end up with no hair (cause itll all get squished up against yer scalp) =] if you backcomb loosely, you'll be alright. i think my shortest bit was about 5 inches, was backcombed REAL tight, and now its just fucked. its getting looser with a few washes, which, i think, will make it better be aware that most backcombing will fall out or get loose within the first month anyway =] have a look at my progress thread, ill find you the link if you want? oh and, have you decided about the wax? it really isnt necessary, but can be useful *cant believe im saying that, i hate the stuff*
