War and abortion cannot be compared to that extent, nutty, you should come up with something better. It could appear like you are grasping at straws...

I firmly believe in a women's right to choose, however I think it should be used for extreme circumstances (like medical necessity, rape, incest, addicts). I had my first child almost one year ago and I can tell you that it is not for everyone. Carrying another life is a huge sacrifice that some women aren't ready for. Should a coke head carry a baby because everyone thinks she morally should? No that's not fair to the baby. I can see how women get faced with this decision if they are on their own, underage, or unprepared. It's not my place to decide for all women what to do with their bodies.

I think the best answer is to make birth control available to EVERYONE. I am currently in KY where the big fight is that birth control encourages kids to have sex. I don't know where these old fuddy-duddies have been - kids have sex with or without protection. With protection, fewer pregnancies occur and the STD rate drops.

But the bigger issue is a government should not have control over my body. No one should but me. But I also carry the responsibility of making sure I don't end up in a compromising situation. For women who have abortions, they are the ones who have to live with that decision for the rest of their lives. Sometimes, I think that be worse than any punishment doled out by society. Think about it, everytime she sees a baby, she has to wonder what her's looked like, what the child would be doing now, etc... These are just my opinions though, k?

Abortion is a relatively small issue compared to the idea that we're destroying the earth, jeopardizing the lives of every living thing on this planet. Abortion is being used as a distraction from the real issues because western culture does not want to change one bit!

Exactly, no woman resorts to abortion as an easy out. She alone bears the burden for the rest of her life.

You, alone, are an addition to My Heroes lists. I've been pondering that thought, but I could never arrest them long enough to print them out into words, but you did a fantastic job. That's exactly how I feel. Abortion is only second best.

There's a good 50 Million Abortion performed a year ( that's recorded, most likely a lot more ) and you're giving me crap about saving the earth? The earth is doomed to die out any way you look at it, most of humanity is selfish and greedy, might as well indulge and give others a chance to indulge as well.

That of course is just my opinion.

That much of a rise in the population would diminish the quality of life for everyone, especially those that really could not deal with a child. Something like 75% of all abortions are in developing countries. Do you think they could support that?

Well, abortion is another form of our destruction of the Earth, isn't it? No one issue, relating to destruction, is small compared to another. The reason humanity is so destructive and culture so inflexible is because we don't want to better ourselves. We find reasons for justifying destrucive actions, like abortion as well as any other destructive act.

Arguing against abortion is not trying to cause a distraction. It is to convince people that being against it makes sense if you are opposed to any form of destruction.

Not at all. They can indeed be compared, in my opinion. War and abortion have their supporters who defend them as necessary solutions to a range of problems that they cannot think can be solved in any other realistic way.

Abortion is purely a human-made, human-affecting process. The only impact it has on the rest of the planet comes from population change (if it occurs). That's not to say abortion is no big deal, or that human life isn't important; but there looms a demise for every man, woman, and child, and it sure as hell isn't making the news. People would rather hear about fetuses and American Idol all day.

Ever heard of "a sacrifice for the good of the many"? This implies that, for instance, one's own destruction is comparatively more acceptable than the destruction of a group of others, hence one who has internalized this would not be opposed to sacrifice. Do you recall the Buddhist monk who set himself ablaze to protest the Vietnam war? Which, would you say, carries more negativity? The monk's humble sacrifice or the brutal deaths of countless others in Vietnam? Would you say that the monk's suicide wasn't worth it?

Death is a part of life. Selfish taking of lives is not. My only problem being: Let's devote some of our time and energy to righting a wrong which affects the existence of everyone and everything on Earth, rather than squabbling over an issue when the argument can't reasonably be won by either side.

People don't know what it means to better themselves. Most believe it means to go to the gym more often, or get a tan. What it really comes down to is the idea of natural-born rights, and to whom the rights belong.

It's not trying to cause a distraction, it's unintentionally kicking up dust in front of an issue that affects more than the fate of the unborn human. When the shit hits the fan, every fetus will die helplessly, because man does not truly want to preserve life, man wants to preserve society.

So it's not about saving the lives of the unborn? It's not about making a future for unwanted babies? It's about telling everyone that you're opposed to destruction. That's cool with me, it's your prerogative to have an opinion and a goal.

I think its the mothers choice. although it is murdering. and it makes me sad. personally i wouldnt have an abortion
its a sensitive topic you chose. and not often lightly thought of.
still abortion is cruel but i wouldnt hold it against the mother if she made the decision to have one.
    peace

I think duty is a strong word. It is our right to birth a child. It's not how the world works, it's biology. And I am not so sure it's such a great thing to bring another child into this screwed up world, so when I am ready to have kids I am probably (not 100% sure yet) going to adopt. But it is my choice. And I believe it should be the woman's CHOICE to have a baby, give it up or have an abortion.

I believe in sacrifice for the good of the many but abortion defies this, why not instead kill off those who do not have purpose? Terminate the mentally retarded, the extremely overweight pigs living off welfare etc.

Why terminate something you don't know the prospects of?

It doesn't make sense, sure terminating a pregnancy when you know the child is going to be a retard is one thing but general birth control? A definite negative.

Why don't you admit you're just the general selfish human being? I admit it, why don't you? Face it the only reason you care about teh earth and quality of life is for your own ass.

You're wrong. When I speak of quality of life, I'm not concerned with myself. I have a good education, my family is well-off, and I could get a decent job without too much trouble. When I speak of quality of life, I speak of those who work two jobs to barely get by, those whose lives are full of bad friends, bad parents, and bad addictions to whom a child would not only wreak devastation on that individual, but the extrapolation of that harm would lead that parent to fail any parental duties they may be tied up with, merely continuing a downward spiral. I'm concerned about the people in Haiti who die of TB just because nobody is willing to invest the small amount it would take to cure them, to feed them, to allow them to live in anything but squalor. The people that get abortions, and I would be willing to bet, a large number of those who don't, are people that need anything but the incredible burden and responsibility that comes with a child. In addition to the poor and the starving, more people means more energy, more CO2, more global warming, more rape of the beautiful earth around us, and a lower quality of life. Yes, I do want to avoid that. But the human race would be better without all that stuff, don't ya think?

Sometimes you have to accept the truth, well, no, you can always continue to live in denial, but the truth is that the earth is doomed, if not this Century ( which I would be very surprised ) then the next and so forth. Abortion won't add to the inevitable, however terminating negatives in the human race can add something, more benefits, it's simple math people, kill 3 retards and you can feed 2 doctors quite well instead of all 5 starving.

I do not accept that the earth is doomed. If it is, you are the one helping it down that path, and I am the one trying to turn it around.
