I have no idea who the guy is, but why is he a 'true American hero'? Because he killed some foreigners in a far-away (read Muslim) country?

I'm sure he's a brave soldier. They like giving out the CMH because it's good PR

"Carter rescued a fellow soldier and carried him through a hail of bullets, unarmed. On that day nearly 300 insurgents, armed with automatic rifles and rocket-propelled grenades, surrounded the outpost in Afghanistan's Nuristan Province. Fifty-three Americans were stationed there; eight were killed in the battle, and 22 were wounded."

    For the lazy.

Yeah kinda what I expected, an American soldier in a foreign country doing what he was paid for to do.

Nice propaganda to keep the patriottic flame going.

I agree. Sort of. That shit is all part of the game. Makes me think of Forrest Gump, whenever I think about it, actually. That one scene. You know the one.

I have no clue, never seen the movie. I do however know about the movie, that is about as far as my knowledge of popular movies goes.

I know what you mean. I'm not a movie person, at all. If I have seen one it was probably an accident.

    Anyhow, the article.

It's nice to save the lives of others, but it is also nice not to sign up to kill the OTHER others. You know, the people from the countries who we don't like. So...less "hero" more "repaying karmic debt."

It seems like he he went above and beyond the call of duty, and the medal is warranted. Risked his life on several occasions, including carrying a wounded fellow soldier to safety.

My complaint is not with the soldier but with the politicians. I think they save up medal candidates, then award the medal when they want to generate some PR, or to convince people that we should get involved in another war.

Yes, he might have killed some human beings, that is part of his job too. A human being is a human being, if he is American of Afghan. Black or white. Asian or European. Anyone who kills another human being, or holds a gun with the idea to kill, will never be a hero in my book. He is a loser, an idiot, a slave, a tool. Not a hero.

Unless ofcourse he kills the rapist of his daughter. Then he is a hero.
