What do you believe different from your religion (Christianity)? Or are all your beliefs the same with every single thing in your religion (Christianity)?
I have an open mind. There are things I doubt and struggle with understanding (Hell, mortal sin...), but I am trying to trust the wisdom of the (Catholic) Church.
I don't disagree with anything. The Bible keeps changing every time go back to it. It's like a mirror to the one reading.
Slippery questions. My beliefs are radically different from the orthodox teachings of my formal religion in too many ways to list. So with the second question in mind, I say 'no' My beliefs are based on the unpolluted teaching of Jesus himself. So to the same question I also say 'yes.'
nice question, i think its important to point out that theres actually nothing special or different about Christianity when compared to other religions. they all claim to be the one true religion, the right path to god, the definitive guide to morality etc, etc. then there are the different sects of christianity, which splinter off because they claim that the original religion had some errors that they had to fix in order to become, once again, the one true religion, with the right path, and the definitive guide to morality etc, etc. and then you have the people who make their own personal version, by cherry picking their favorite bits and pieces and leaving out the parts that are just too embarrassing or inconvenient to believe in.
I'm a Christian partly because it's the predominant religious tradition of my culture, but also because I think Jesus had a particular slant on things that deeply resonates with my sense of meaning and value. I see lots of similarities between Christianity and Buddhism, and I've drawn a lot on Buddhist teachings to sharpen my understanding of Christianity. But I haven't come across any great moral teacher who shows the same level of concern for the poor and society's rejects. The Buddhist emphasis on karma and samsara can, I think, mute efforts to help those people. How do I differ from others who use the Christian label? First of all, I don't go along with Paul's shift of emphasis from Jesus' example and teachings to his crucifixion, and his emphasis on justification by faith alone, which too often gets translated into belief in the unbelievable. I don't accept most of the doctrines embodied in Christian creeds: virgin birth, literal resurrection, the Trinity, miracles, or that outrageously picayune doctrine, the filoque., which divides the orthodox and western branches of Christianity. I don't believe in an afterlife, but believe that "The Kingdom of the Father is spread out everywhere upon the Earth, and people do not see it. (Thomas, 113), I think Paul started Christianity off on the wrong path, Constantine made it worse and Saint Augustine drove a stake through its heart. But behind the smoke and mirrors, I still see the teachings and example of Jesus shining bright.
^ in other words its the most popular path to spirituality in the area that you live in. thats cool, i also like the hindu school of thought, which is very similar to buddhism in the ways you mentioned. i particularly like the concept of being in the service of others, and the lack of importance of believing in god or you go to hell. i think thats fake morality.
