Depending on who ends up with it? The possibilities are endless, just for a second consider all the things they can do with DNA. Then consider the things that are possible but they are supposedly not allowed to do with DNA. Or the possibilities for your future descendants. Suppose they don't want to give there DNA you've pretty much already done it for them. We wont give out our SS numbers we put passwords on everything we own, We struggle fruitlessly for our privacy and then we just happily hand over our DNA to strangers??

I suppose this is theoretical but with all of the other info available....you could use DNA to cross reference for certain behavior patterns, health issues, or any number of things and use it to your advantage.

And that might not even be theoretical. It might be exactly what's being done with it. What do I know?

And honestly How far back does one really need to trace their ancestry? For that matter what the heck are they supposedly going to tell you? Suppose just for the sake of argument Ancestry goes out of business! What happens to your sample then? Suppose on the very extreme side of this thought, one of the technicians is a criminal? JUst to many variables

    Where you come from.
    Code:
Ouidah Museum of History, Benin, Africa: A DNA test points Emmitt Smith to his ancestor’s home in Africa. Traveling there, Emmitt learns how his ancestors would have been taken into slavery. He also discovers that things aren’t much better today: in his homeland there still exists child trafficking.http://blogs.ancestry.com/ancestry/2010/03/12/wdytya-episode-2-emmitt-smith/

    Code:
Megan Smolenyak, the DNA Expert on this episode of "Who Do You Think You Are" arranged for testing from three DNA companies. She, like most researchers, wanted as much data to crunch as possible. It was primarily Emmitt Smith's autosomal (sometimes referred to as "admixture" testing) that is focused upon in the episode. Notice that Megan used words like "roughly" and "about," because the figures she gave were estimates - give or take a few percentage points.

Autosomal DNA helps give an individual an overall snapshot of their ancestral origins. Our cells contain 46 packages of DNA called "chromosomes." Chromosomes come in pairs; 22 of those pairs are called "autosomes," and the 23rd pair determines your gender. Your autosomes are composed of random combinations of your ancestor's autosomes. So, you inherit your autosomes from your ancestors ... ALL branches of your ancestry contribute a piece to your autosomal DNA. That way, when autosomal DNA is tested, you're getting statistics (albeit with some small percentage margin of error) about where your ancestors originated.https://www.progenealogists.com/individual/emmitt-smith

Child trafficking exists everywhere. That 23rd pair starts a whole different query in my mind considering all the questions about gender assignment and identity. I just have in inherent distrust of some scientific facts. I don't always believe what im told :)

I've wanted to send a sample of my dna to see what part of Africa my ancestors originally come from, and my overall biological ancestry...I've read where you can send off a sample for $200 (if I'm not mistaken) to find this info.

There could be worse things than a clone of me going around. j/k lol ... no , I don't think they will clone my old ass :D and I'm wondering what the (bad) deal is with ancestry.com.

If I thought I could find out anything more than I already know from it without paying money, I would jump on the bandwagon. But I really think we've (my brother and I) gone as far with the ancestry as I think we can go...

We had a thunderstorm this morning. Two days ago 4 inches of snow. Melted yesterday. Thunder today and cold again tomorrow through the weekend. Mother Nature jerking us around a bit.
