Winter decided to give us another blast of snow. Just back from taking Grace to the park. I had to clear 4 inches of snow off the car to get started. Saw a couple robins who looked pissed off. BUT it is sunny today and may get up to 40 degrees so the snow will likely be gone by night.

I am truly disturbed that Ancestry.com Is asking people for their DNA. More disturbed that people are just handing it over :-\

 

I'm not. I think it is an amazing tool to trace your lineage. What are you worried they will do with it?

I don't know. You are giving it willingly, so technically they can do whatever they want with it. Also who knows how long they will preserve it. There are just to many possibilities for me to think its a good idea.

I get ya but....I don't know. I probably wouldn't do it but in this day and age, with people putting so much info out there, iPhones saving finger prints, facial recognition technology, etc.....there is already so much people can find out about you. Not to mention data mining companies. I know a guy who works for one and he says that the gov't info collecting pales in comparison to what private companies are collecting and selling....even to law enforcement agencies because those agencies don't have the know-how, time or budgets to gain that information themselves. He said that if he wants to....he can find out every contract you've ever entered into, every place you ever lived, every bill you ever owed, everything you've ever purchased using anything besides cash and even some of the cash purchases depending on circumstances, identify most of your friends and family members, identify your travel habits, dietary habits, internet search history.....I could go on and on. He could find out things about you that you forgot. He said if people knew about all of the data that private companies already collect about everyone (and are under no legal obligation to disclose to anyone)....they would be furious because it makes the gov'ts programs look like childs play.

So...a little DNA? If someone wanted it bad enough, they could easily use info available for a price to track you and get it from you without you ever knowing.

 

So what are you saying? If you cant beat them join them? I for one am not going to make it easier for anyone to invade my privacy or impede my freedom.. I know its basically none existent but im hanging on for dear life.

 

dna will protect you more than it will convict you ..

 

I don't disagree with buddy.....they want to sell the mass results....they don't give one flying monkeys anus if I connect with my long lost cousins from Russia

they don't care if I connect with the adopted children ive given up over the years

they do not care....they have an end game that makes them millions

Not saying that at all and I don't blame you for wanting to preserve whatever you can. For what it's worth, I'm not sending my DNA to anyone either.
