It is above freezing and the sun was out for a little bit. I am not giving it back!

 

I'm kind of pissed off tonight. I noticed a few glaring errors made on my house after the drywall was done. We hoped we could paint it out. I was going to let it go. My wife talked to the contractor today and he said "Well, that's just where the joists were....can't do anything about it". No...now I will talk to him and that isn't going to fly with me. He started off so well. Someone should have hung a laser up there while it was gutted and that person is him. It would have taken a half an hour to fix it. I honestly don't even want him to tear it back out at this point. I'm just going to make the point that I will have it done later with people who don't fuck up and know how to make a deadline. You can say it's an old house on a $5k remodel on a room or something. This deal is more like 2.5x what I paid for the house. I'm paying for perfection and I'm not fucking around. I thought he was so good to start with but I've learned that almost all contractors are fuck-ups who work for themselves because they would get fired if they worked for someone else. The MVPs in this are the individual/moonlighting guys that I know and have hired because they're guys who understand what a deadline is. They have been paid/tipped very well because I appreciate them.

I'm totally venting but the more I type, the more I think....my business gets paid for perfection. 26 trees down today. Perfectly. It's that way every single day. It's your job! It's not like you do anything special to do it correctly. Do your fucking job! Why am I paying this much money and doing half the shit myself? Totally just venting though. It's crunch time and I'm feeling like most of it is correct but I'm not in the mood for excuses when I'm paying for perfection. I'm actually more calm than I was when i started this post. But we're going to have a little chat tomorrow.

This is why I came up with that business idea to smoke these guys. You could totally do it. But again...I don't think I want to put the effort into it. But I should have just done this house myself....as long as it's taken. I would have been done by now for half the cost.

Another Captain question: Is he friendly to everybody? I know there are any number of big breeds that are naturally sweet and loving...I know just a little bit about general characteristics of different breeds, and oh lordymercy I've heard probably a million times that its all in how a dog is raised.

That being said...I STILL think there are breeds that are predisposed to be mean, or rather Very Protective of their owner, and even sometimes turning on said owner.

I must say that I find your "rants" quite interesting and informative. I always wondered if these inept and shoddy workers/contractors ever get the "opportunity" to work for someone like you...someone/ a man that can get right on their level and discuss what they have done or are doing that is Not Acceptable.

Your posts have heartened me to know that there are times these shoddy workers are called on their unacceptable work by someone they can't try to talk down to in a condescending way...there are times they are called to task for their crappy work. :2thumbsup:

All I can say is the roofers around here know not to fool around with me; but, it is just because I've learned what to say and look for, and it gripes their butt.

Everybody else gets to screw over us/me, as far as I know. lol

The shit is going to hit the fan today. The ceiling in the first floor bedroom is of by an inch or two in a couple of spots. The contractor was there yesterday and told my wife that's just how these houses are. Bullshit. They should have hung a laser like they did on everything else and made sure it was level. It would be one thing if they owned up to it and said...hey...we screwed up. But don't think I'm a fucking idiot and try to bullshit me because that will piss me off in a New York second.

Obviously, I'm still pissed about this and preparing for battle. I'm going to tell him that if his flooring guy can't do a better job, don't even fucking bother putting it in.
