Xmas in all liklihood will be cancelled !!!

PM cannot say whether families will be able to celebrate Christmas together

    PA
    Sep 9th 2020 1:13PM
The Prime Minister was unable to say whether families will be able to celebrate Christmas together this year, as the Government's top medic predicted a "difficult" few months ahead over winter.

At a press conference officially announcing that social gatherings of more than six people will be illegal in England from Monday, Boris Johnson said it "breaks his heart" to have to impose restrictions on families.

When asked at the first Downing Street briefing since July whether Christmas was effectively cancelled, Mr Johnson told reporters it was "too early to say" whether big parties could be held over the festive season.

He added: "The thing we need now is for everybody to work together to enforce the rule of six and get the current spike down."

The new rules are an attempt to reduce social contact amid a rise in Covid-19 cases across the UK, with a particular peak in infections among young people.
Mr Johnson said the Government had been forced to act because "with the best will in the world people have not, I'm afraid, been totally following the guidelines", he said.

The rules were backed by chief medical officer, Professor Chris Whitty, who said the period between now and spring will be "difficult" as people meet more indoors over the colder months.

Prof Whitty told reporters: "Everybody I think in the country will know, and it has been widely reported that the period over autumn and winter, which is the period when all respiratory viruses have an advantage because people crowd together, more things are done indoors amongst other reasons, it is going to be difficult.

"So the period between now and spring is going to be difficult because this is a respiratory virus.

"I think in terms of the existing restrictions, people should see this as the next block of time that may not last for many months, but it is very unlikely to be over in just two or three weeks."

Despite the new restrictions the Prime Minister struck an optimistic tone saying he is "still hopeful" that "we could be able to get some aspects of our lives back to normal by Christmas".

He pointed to the new "moonshot" approach of mass testing, which could enable theatres and sports venues to test audience members on the day and allow in all those testing negative, as well as enable workplaces to operate more normally.

Mr Johnson said: "In future, in the near future, we want to start using testing to identify people who are negative – who don't have coronavirus and who are not infectious – so we can allow them to behave in a more normal way, in the knowledge they cannot infect anyone else with the virus."

    Absolute madness .

People can't meet up in groups of above 6 . But and a big But they want you to travel on crowded trains eg London Underground and repopulate the office with perhaps 50 or so work colleagues . But that's OK the virus is exempt from the workplace isn't it ? And wasn't it the Government recommending that people work from home in the first place ?

They said the experts that is said that the virus doesn't affect young people in a drive to get schools reopened . Yet Professor Vallance in yesterdays PM Announcement stated that the virus starts in younger people and works upwards . A very big contradiction especially if you look at the Northern Ireland statistic of 64 schools already reporting infections . Northern Ireland is not that big either. I expect very much the same in the UK in the coming weeks.

The Covid measuring is an absolute joke. They are trying to compare the testing results which was limited to Hospitals last May to current figures now which are tested within the community . Tosh Tosh Tosh .If I tried to do that when I took more Statistics Btec many years ago I would have got probably 0/10 .

I don't normally get involved with politics pages as its not really my field and I normally leave that to the experts like Vlad.,VG,Balbus and many others.

But maybe my mood swing on the utter rubbish that's being touted about has got me angry and now got me posting about it. Perhaps my mood is beginning to mirror the average British person who is seeing their liberties removed from them by mindless idiots in charge and the contradictions that they spout .

I keep getting told that children don't get the Virus and its good for kids to go back to school.

Only now I am learning that Conservative Minister Jacob Rees-Mogg is self isolating after one of his children is suspected having the virus . They are still waiting of the results ( Source BBC ) . Of course it goes without saying I wish the kid well but it just goes to show that kids can just as easily contract the virus and then potentially spread it to their parents and grand parents. So why are the Government insisting that its safe for kids to go back to school amid concerns from parents, teachers and the teaching unions ?

Just an update from the Bolton debacle . The MEN through the Mayor have confirmed that the likely source of the virus is imported from a superspreader going drinking in the town over the Bank Holiday Weekend after coming back from holiday. Now because of this idiot I am having to have a night out in a neighbouring town as they have shut the town centre down .

We are also going to get these guys introduced . The councils were never informed of this prior to the Covid announcement and bemused many of them questioning as to were the funding is coming from .

From my point of view if these guys end up just being jobsworths and don't practice what they preach then I will not hold back and give them verbal abuse.

Tory MP Says He's 'Not Willing To Live' Under Government's Covid Restrictions
Former minister Steve Baker described the new rules as "not a fit legal environment for the British people".

Conservative MP Steve Baker has said he is “not willing to live” under new coronavirus measures announced by Boris Johnson on Wednesday, which include the introduction of ‘Covid-secure marshals’.

The former minister and ardent Brexiteer also suggested that Covid laws should be abandoned in favour of a “voluntary system”, with the current rules and proposals presenting an unfit “legal environment for the British people”.

The introduction of the marshals was announced alongside confirmation of the “rule of six”, which comes into force from Monday, September 14, and a radical new mass testing plan dubbed Operation Moonshot by the PM – for which even the technology does not yet exist.

Criticising the new restrictions – which could remain in force until at least the spring of 2021 – Baker told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “I think it is now time to say that this is not a fit legal environment for the British people.

“It’s time to move to a voluntary system – unless the government can demonstrate otherwise.

“And it is time for us to actually start living like a free people, not subjecting ourselves to constantly shifting legal requirements, which I think now no one can fully understand.”

Baker’s apparent advocacy of shifting away from the rule of law around Covid restrictions comes days after a cabinet minister admitted the government’s plans to change their own Brexit deal break the law in a “very specific and limited way”.

Baker added: “It seems to me the effect of having Covid marshals will be to turn every public space in Britain into the equivalent of going through airport security where we are badgered and directed… I’m not willing to live like this.”

It’s far from the first time Baker has spoken out against the government. He was among the group of Tory MPs who called for the resignation of Johnson’s top advisor Dominic Cummings after he travelled to Durham with his family during lockdown, and resigned from his role as Brexit minister in July 2018.

In October 2018 Baker submitted a letter of no confidence in Theresa May’s leadership amid arguments over her proposals for the Withdrawal Agreement.

He has previously spoken out about the “increasingly disproportionate” Covid regulations being introduced by government, describing the new restrictions as “authoritarian” in a tweet on Wednesday.

Measures signed into law by @MattHancock look increasingly disproportionate

I'm finding usually sensible people are alarmed by the Government's authoritarian reaction to #COVID19 - and no wonder

Ministers must have regard to the rights of a free people, whatever the advice https://t.co/UU810g5ITq

'Mingling' is breach of new rules - Patel
UK Home Secretary Priti Patel says the new "rule of six" means that a family should not stop on the street to talk to another family they know, as it is considered "mingling" and essentially breaks the rules.

Asked if two families of four stopping for a chat on the way to the park constituted "mingling", Patel told Radio 4's Today programme: "I think it is absolutely mingling.

"You have got to put this in the context of coronavirus and keeping distance, wearing masks.

"The rule of six is about making sure that people are being conscientious and not putting other people's health at risk. Mingling is people coming together. That is my definition of mingling."

She also said "it was right" to report people for breaking coronavirus restrictions to police.

I think it just goes to show how desperate and pathetic this government has been possibly with the exception of the Chancellor ( so far) in managing Covid in this country.

When are they going to realise that lockdowns either local or nationally don't work? They only delay things and destroy the economy . All that happens with lockdowns is that you get a continuous cycle of Virus ,Lockdown, Virus, Lockdown ,Virus ,Lockdown.............................................

They should be looking at shielding the vulnerable in bubbles by those that have had the virus like in my mother in laws arrangement and allowing the rest of the country to function as normal as possible but guarding against the overwhelming of the NHS .
The daily fatality rate at the moment is very low. whilst one fatality is always going to be one too many , more people are dying on a daily basis from cancers but these go under the radar.

The graph they use to show the number of daily cases of Covid reads nonsense . The sampling done back prior to July was taken from hospitals and some care homes . The sampling now is community wide. If the figures were taken community wide back then then the cases would probably be much higher . My families cases for example in March are not among the figures, with the exception of my brother who was in a Manchester Hospital ICU .

To conclude this rule of 6 which is impossible to police just shows how desperate this Government is getting .

I appreciate your different view .Mine is based on the near the loss of my brother to Covid and he ended up having to have heart surgery and an artificial valve fitted to replace the one mangled up by the virus .
