that thing has 4 platters, so only 2.5MB per platter. density has increased quite a lot. i got a 4TB western digital enterprise drive (5 yr warranty) cuz i was running out of space on my 1TB drive for all the movies and stuff i store. there's some new technology that can store over 1TB per platter and WD has a 6TB "green" drive but it only has a 2 year warranty. Enterprise class hard drives are more reliable because they're designed for 24/7 operation. reliabiity means a lot because data loss is a bitch so the warranty period can tell you alot about how reliable the manufacturer thinks it's gonna be.
It says right in the ad it's for S100 systems... Way before your time. Yes, we had computers before the 80's
ive noticed the higher the density the shorter its lifespan. i tell my clients a hard drive is not reliable after 5 years.
apparently most hard drive failures occur either relatively soon, or somewhere near the end of the manufacturers warranty period.
http://youtu.be/DKtGLtJwf0U There were over 10 different hard drives available for the C 64 in the 80's.
