SelfControl has truly inspired me to smoke more outside and to blow smoke at the faces of passing strangers. I used to be so nice about my smoking too, standing away from people, and even putting my cigg out around children. Now I will make sure to stand outside kindergartens and blow my evil, anti-social smoke into kids' faces. Hail Satan!
i keep a half full water bottle in my car for my cigarette butts when i'm out and about and there may not be a trash can. also, with all the wind and dryness, i'm afraid of fire coming from my butts. that wold be horrifying. but i'm afraid of fire anyway. so, anyway, i got out of the car to smoke on my road trip. i'm standing outside the car, holding the water bottle, which has some butts in it already. but this guy starts staring at me. and i'm getting creeped out, until i realize he staring balefully at my cigarette. so i said "hi! nice day!" and he's all surly and yells "i hate when smokers throw their butts on the ground, that's littering!" and i said nicely "so do i! that's why i carry this water bottle with me!"
Oh man, that guy sure does sound like an asshole. Don't you think that it's terrible to stereotype all smokers as unhealthy, anti-social, and polluting? Only a complete stuck up idiot would do that. People like that should get cigarettes put out on their eyeballs.
i think he was just trying to be uppity and shitty. some people are just like that. like the head of the homeowners association here in the neighborhood. he lives across the parking lot from us. GOD, i hate when he gets in everyone's business. however, dave likes to just barely walk the line of the rules, so that that guy can be as pissed as he likes but can't do anything about it. *snicker*
I don't think Self Control was being snobby at all. From what I gathered, he was just explaining that smoking affects people more than smokers like to believe. Nobody should obviously go into a group of smokers and complain or tell them to stop smoking, but at the same time, nobody should be forced to endure the nauseating smell of cigarette smoke in a place that is not specifically for smokers. Your habit is your habit, but please don't make it mine. A lot of people might enjoy the smell of cigarette smoke, but it makes me, and a lot of other people, feel sick. If I am stuck up by saying that, then so be it. I think a huge problem is that smokers don't realize the effects because they have been incorporated into their bodies for so long; this was the case for my father, who now feels very foolish for ever having a problem with the attitudes of non-smokers. They think people are just trying to be whiny and annoying when they really aren't.
i have no problem with people avoiding the smell. i don't like it, either. just remember the last time you were around someone wearing too much perfume or patchouli and feel their pain.
we were showing our house as a favor to the landlord, and these college kids some in. one of them stank SO BAD of cigarettes that it made our eyes water. it was HORRIBLE.
There is something about stale tobacco, or tobacco smoke that is left to settle for a little while...in carpets, clothes, on a person's breath. It seems to ferment or something. I have bad allergy problems but can still smoke a few cigs with little problem. Put me in a room with a stale tobacco smell and i'm wheezing for air.
well i didn't read the whole thread but i dont like cigarettes. I walk to school, walk back and i just hate it when people in front of me or around me are smoking, if theyre in front of me i have to fall back or just rush past them to avoid having to breathe in their smoke as i walk back. I have asthma and its really not nice. Plis I see little kids, 5 years old walking with minders or parents, the people supposed to be looking after them while they smoke and the kids have to breathe it in second hand, and they dont even get a choice. I mean, if you want to do smoke fine, but those kids dont get a chance. Having said that my friend smokes, and God i worry about her...
No one is forced to endour anything! The world is huge, there is a place for both smokers and non-smokers outside. I avoid fat people on the sidewalk so that they don't crush me to death, a non-smoker can just as easily avoid a smoker... walk around them... I could smoke in the privacy of my own home, but hell... I hate smoking inside, it makes the house smell and it lacks the social aspect of smoking outside, contemplating upon nature, meeting people, and so on. Non-smokers do not realize how extremely social smoking is. Fuck you for trying to force me to smoke inside. Smoking is a long-standing tradition in this world. No one is forcing you to breath smoke, so honestly... for a lack of better words... shut the fuck up and mind your own damn business. Exposing kids to smoke though, no good, no sir. I think that it's irresponsible of parents to smoke around their young children.
what i said was i have to rush past them or just fall really back... I dont mind if other people smoke (except my friend but she wont listen to me).
Smoking is very social. Most places i've worked I'm usually hanging out with the smokers before and after work and on my lunch break. They always seem to be cooler than everyone else. I don't smoke but will happily sit outside in the cold and put up with the shit they are breathing out just so I don't have to sit in the staff room with boring, whiney prudes.
I wasn't really referring to you in my post, you actually exemplify how easy it is to just avoid smokers... you either rush past them or fall back, or move to the side, or so... it really isn't that much of a hassle.
Right. Well personally I was all in favour of bars having smoking areas, and a lot of them have, and it's fine. In this country there's a pretty good compromise most of the time. The only problem I really have is with the attitudes of some smokers. One of my housemates smokes, and I have no problem with that. But she goes into our kitchen to smoke, and never cleans or empties her ashtray. That I do have a problem with, because it's just straight up callousness. Clearly this proves that I'm uppity and that every smoker should hate me because I clearly want them to be lined up against a wall and shot. It doesn't just indicate that I have a problem with smokers who think they own the fucking world.
Yeah, that despicable "smokers smoking in designated smoking areas are fine by me" attitude is like... I mean, I'm practically Hitler.
Yes, fuck designated smoking areas. I want to smoke wherever I fucken please. I don't want to have to walk to a "designated smoking area" in the rain or snow just to smoke a bloody cigarette. I don't see the problem as long as I don't blow smoke in anyone's face. You stay out of my way, and I'll stay out of yours. It's as simple as that.
Sorry, but no. Fuck you. Your habit is unhealthy and it stinks. Why the fuck should you be allowed to spew noxious fumes "wherever you fucken please"? Because you're so fucking awesome? And of course you don't see a problem with it, because you're desperate for any justification for your filthy fucking habit. Either your sense of taste and smell barely function or you're actually stupid, because you think that you have to actually blow smoke into someone's face for it to affect them in any way. Seriously, you're being tolerated way more than you deserve and you're quite clearly an utter moron.
Fastfood is unhealthy, and it sure does stink. You can smell a Mickey D's for a mile down the road. Should we ban that too? Wait, some people are unhealthy, and they stink... should we kill them off? How about old people? I don't like that old person smell... lets ban being old. Wait, wait... how about marijuana? Sure ain't too healthy to smoke it, and some people don't enjoy the smell... lets never legalize that. And oh man... ever smelled cheap vodka? Phewwww... unhealthy too, man... ban that shit! How about farting? No more farting in public... goddman methane release! Destroying our precious atmosphere. ...and cars, lets ban cars. They pollute, stink, and waste resources. Lets take airplanes, trains, factories, and computers down too. I should be allowed to smoke because it is my constitutional right. You can't smell it unless you stand next to me, you can't be affected by the oh so dangerous fumes unless you're exposed to me for long amounts of time (Which won't happen, because you're a pussy). Tolerated more than I deserve? Since when has smoking been "tolerated" and not "accepted"? It is my choice to smoke, and I will keep on smoking until I realize that I know better than that. I'm not supportin the habit, but I sure am supporting people's rights to engage in it, just like I'll support people's rights to smoke crack, commit suicide, engage in willing sado-masochistic sex, and anything else of that nature. A ban on smoking will only limit personal freedom. What will be banned next? Alcohol? Books? Free Will?
