Why are men's size actually measured in inches while women's sizes are not. I wear size 40 pants (yes I'm working on this) which is my circumference in inches, but my wife wears something like 1,2,3,7 or 15. I know she's not 15 inches in circumference. I don't understand what started the measurement system difference or why. I think of pants in terms of a man's size and I have problems trying to buy pants for my wife. Am I blinded by my fixation on men's sizes? Can someone help?
maybe because women are more discreet you never ask a woman her age or weight... but I wonder, why are buttons on women's shirts on the left side and men's on the right?
That makes sense. I know there's a logical reason. When I was younger I would have answered thst it was because it was easier for a guy to help a woman unbutton her shirt.
I prefer European sizes for shoes. I'm a 38 (womens 8, or mens 6). As far as pant size, I usually buy more expensive jeans and slacks so they come in the actual measurement for accuracy. Most of the more high end/expensive brands are sized this way. Dress/skirt size is the usual number you're referring to though. For example, I am 4-6. A four is perfect up top but tight on the hips because my hips are about 36-37 inches (around the hip/top of butt) and a 6 is perfect in the hips but a bit loose in the waist and up top. But there is a size chart that determines the "overall" dress number. Seems like an extra unnecessary step, at the same timeā¦ its easier to summarize with one number for a dress versus the following info in the dress chart: As far as mens sizes.. whats the issue? I think its best to keep mens sizes simple and straight forward for the guys. No fuss...
I wish girls clothing was sized like this! I'm fairly petite and it's hard to hunt down things in "short" sizes. What is the deal with women petite sizes? They are seriously designed for old ladies who have shrank. Also, why don't we describe men as "petite" or "brunette"?
To complicate matters even more, some women's clothes are sized in odd numbers (3,5,7, etc) and some in even numbers (2, ,4,6). There are a couple of expensive jean brands I like that use measurements instead so its very easy to find a perfect fit but these brands are generally too pricey for me. I find it odd that women's brands don't use a precise measurement when finding perfectly fitting pants or jeans is extremely difficult for most women.
Haha, I was making fun of the penis size threads. I have always been curious about the size systems for clothes and when I made the thread, I made the title a joke of the ps threads for fun.
So there is not one size system for women? I had to buy a pair of black pants for my stepdaughter a while back. My wife gave me a size and a store name. If I would have gone to the wrong store, could I have ended up with the wrong size pants by going by the number that she gave me?
Nope! And whats worse is we have marketing teams that make up sizes to trick women into buying. For example, some actual larger sizes market their clothing with labels that are actually incorrectly sized with lower digit numbers to make the buyer feel better/smaller. Also, places like Abercrombie and Fitch's sizes are totally wrong. The size 2 is not the same size across the board, for example I can wear a size 1 at Express but a 2 will barely go up my thigh at A&F. It's like they are tricking girls into believing they're fat and oversized. This is why i trust and appreciate the actual measurement labels the most.
The Title Of This Thread Would Be The Biggest "Anti-Climax" I Have Ever Encountered On Hip Forums... Cheers Glen.
