If you go back to the site that you posted a link to earlier, I think I saw something about special orders....there should be an address & phone number also.

Did you get hit by the hurricane?

i wouldnt eat meat i'd hold out for 2 weeks ( ever done it for this long so i bet i can do it) , then die if possible... but until then lets say was in the Arctic or Antarctica and it was life and death and i had more to live for, i'd compromise and choose life and maybe eat a fish.
REad this book... The life of Pi... (i forgot the author)
i know this buddhist guy who did it for 48 days ( but he was prepared)

I'm going to be realistic here. I would eat the MRE's. I have my family to think about, and letting myself shrivel up and waste away would be just plain stupid. Letting yourself get weak like that opens you up to all kind of illnesses. And really, those people had no idea when they would be rescued. You can say in hindsight and by not even going through that disaster at all "well, it was only a week, I could last that long!" You have no idea how intense a survival situation like that is or when you'll get rescued. And seriously folks, you're going to trade 2 teensy little crackers for the main portion of your meal? I think not.

I love how people decide that whatever they would do is the only "realistic" thing, and the only thing any one would do.

I'm vegan, and if I was in that situation I don't think I'd eat it. Definitely not meat anyway. I mean you can survive for weeks without food anyways. If your in the situation where you haven't eaten for a week, meat would not be an advisable thing to start chewing on anyways. You'd probably vomit it up.

LOL I would eat the meat Man! Everyone would-most on here have never been starving to death or homeless--The Human Mind will do ANYTHING to survive even if it means eating you Man! Good thread!

    Throw down all your
    silver spoons - eat
    all of the raw meat
    with your hands.
Pick it up piece by piece
Pick it up piece by piece
Pick it up piece by piece

    Where are the bodies
    for dinner?
    I want my food!

    What if you were
    starving to death and
    they only food you had
    was me - what would
    you say to the cannibal
    question? Would your
    answer be perfectly
    free?

    Your mama told you never
    to eat your friends
    with your fingers and
    hands, but I say you
    ought to eat what
    you will - shove it
    in your mouth any way
    that your can.

You think that I will come
    to your mouth, looking for
a home. But I get stuck
    sideways in your throat
    like a good old chicken
    bone.

Where are the bodies for dinner?
    I want my food!
    Stay out the kitchen children
The cook is cleaning his gun
He just got back from the open
markey - shooting his food on
    the run.

    Your mama told you never
    to eat your friends
    with your fingers and
    hands, but I say you
    ought to eat what
    you will - shove it
    in your mouth any way
    that your can.

    Sharpen your teeth for the
family feast - let all the
    hungry drool roll down
    your chin. Hide the human
    and bring out the beast.
Let all the animal games begin!

Where are the bodies for dinner?
    I want my food!
You could leave to dine on
    your friends - pour their
    bones into a cannibal soup
    muscles like steak
    blood like wine - save
the brains to feed to troops

    Your mama told you never
    to eat your friends
    with your fingers and
    hands, but I say you
    ought to eat what
    you will - shove it
    in your mouth any way
    that your can.

    Scarlet juices ozing
    slow - boiling in a
    human sea.
    Is it human dinner
    you're talking about?
    Then slice me tender
    raw and lean
    Where are the bodies
    for dinner?
    I want my food!

    Oily fingers can hardly
    wait - bodies slumped
    face in plate
    Wake up the drunks
    the coffers on
    the fourteenth course
    has come and gone.

    So long
    all day sucker
    your candy has
    come and gone
    and its left you
    with your mouth
    wide open.

    Just humming
    cannibal songs.

Um... we weren't talking about starving to death. If it was a choice between death and a MRE with meat in it I'd eat the MRE. I'd chow down on my team-mates, too, if we crashed in the mountains. But a few days? No, I wouldn't. Jeeze, what's a few days on just crackers?

Imagine not eating and having to get your kids out of a life threatening situation.
Fasting without activity aside from meditation is possible (see the master clense program), but unprepared and sudden, as in the Katrina flood case in NOLA? these are people who love to eat. It's NOLA, cradle of some of the best food and food rituals in the world. food IS New Orleans.

I say survive, be grateful, and when choices are yours again, make the right ones.

It's easy for us to say what we would do now, as we are not in that situation. Honestly, I don't know what I'd do. I think I would *probably* eat the meat. But since I have never been forced to make such a decision, I can't tell you for sure what I'd do.

This same issue got brought up [sort of] on meat while travelling...

I stated my opinion but, you know what... who knows. It depends what my options were I suppose, if there was any sort of plant-derived foods available, I'd try and grab those before anything... I'd literally try and fill up off any sort of tree standing [the leaves] etc... but if there were no other options left then I suppose MAYBE I'd eat meat or animal products, it really depends....

I can't say, because I don't really know... Not just because I've never been in that situation, but also because I've had years of struggling with an eating disorder ...would it be so hard to let myself starve, or am I recovered to the point where I would find survivng more important? I really couldn't tell you; being put in that situation sure would show me, and test me... but, I don't know.

That's also not my only concern; Seeing everyone around me barely living would concern me more than myself. If my death meant helping even just one person live, because I gave them my food, I would die happy.

*Shrugs* I dont know... there are so many different ways it could go.

And please, nobody bash me for what I said, just exploring all the possibilities; I have a pretty different, eccentric way of looking at things, so I could easily see myself starving to death to save others, and the animals.

I know for a fact I wouldn't go cannibal or kill off any living creature for survival... some people would and some people wouldn't, and I'm one that wouldn't. Going extremely, agonizing hungry isn't really an issue for me, it's more based on everything else around me. Hell, I starved myself when food was readily available, how the hell do I know what I would do in a situation like THIS now days?

i must say im very impressed with how openminded most of you have been with this question,,....

Thank you for attempting to look at it logically rather than unrealistically..
