MY PERSONAL OPINION The different ways (I know of) to start dreads - Back-comb, twist and wax PROS: Instantly tight looking dreads, neat, no frizzies! CONS: Your hair is full of waxy goop! Plus frizzies are not a bad thing, they can help dreads thicken or join two dreads together. Twist and rip PROS: No products on your hair, and they are pretty dread like from day 1. CONS: Ouch! Plus this method causes a fair bit of damage to your hair. Back comb and crochet PROS: Dreads are really tight and neat form day 1, plus no products. CONS: Serious hair damage, and having tight dreads from day 1 is not always good... (This is how I started my dreads, and I wouldn't recommend it actually...) Neglect! PROS: Your dreads will look SICK! You'll probably love them a little bit more too CONS: It takes foreeeeeeever and alot of people cut before they get dreads because your hair takes so long to dread... Backcomb PROS: No products, and your dreads will look pretty good CONS: It takes a while too, and the first few months you will just have big poofy mats. (This is the one I recommend the most, because it's basically the neglect method but you are just speeding up the process with a bit of backcombing here and there to get the mats going)
You sir, strike me as the type of person who "wiki's" everything. But your post did make me lol. :cheers2:
Honestly had no idea, but it was a figure of speech and regardless of the person in questions gender, I still would have started of the post in the same condescending way. eace:
Okay hey again dudes. My hais is 5-6inch long now.. will the dreads look bad, and how short will they be? Again, i have really thick curly hair - afro-like. It is because i can't wait any longer now, or im gonna cut my hair. :/ Edit: Oh well.. I think i'll get my hair cut this week. I cant find no pics with small dreads, so i have nothing to see before jjumping into it... :/
just cut your stressing way to much and thats usually a sign of cutting anyway. LOL no but seriously nobody can answer your question because you did not provide enough information. your length will depend on the method you chose to install the knots. 5 inch straight will translate to 2 to 4 inches depending on your method and how thick your sections are. and small dreads, believe it or not, will look like small dreads. all the pictures in the world wont let you see what you are in for unless you use wax. waxey dreadlocks look the same. like candle coated hair lengths. dreadlocks will never look like somebody elses (maybe slightly resemble, but they will be your own. nobody can show you what they will look like they will do their own thing. get them tied, then take a picture, that is what your hair will look like. as far as the will they look bad question.... YES!!!! they absolutely beyond a shadow of a doubt will look bad. for about 7 months to a year, they will be a frizzy loose, somedays resembling dreads somedays resembling a mentally handicapped bird's nest. im exaggerating on how bad they look. they wont neccessarily look bad (depending on your definition of looking bad) but what i mean by that is that they absolutely will not look like what you want them to for between half a year and a year. anyway, hope this helped. if you want more specifics i suggest posting a pic of your hair and describing what you want and what method you are planning on using.
Okay i'll use backcombing i think. My hair is much like this dudes hair(the guy with curly hair, kinda afro): http://www.dr.dk/DR2/Spilforlivet/Billedserier/2009/vinderneibilleder.htm (press the small arrow in the right corner of the pics to see some of the next.) My hair is a bit lighter colored and sometimes more afro, sometimes not, very much like his hair.
why does there have to be something wrong with short dreadlocks, im hurt that u would think their ugly, i happen to like my short dreadlocks, it does take time for them to get longer you know...think about what u say sometimes
