We've all experienced it. You hadn't done anything (yet), you meet up with your friends who are already going heavy, and you get this wave of their trip. A myriad of explanations are available to the skeptic and acceptable within the framework of what is known about neuroscience at present time, but rather than presenting a hypothesis of an anticipatory psychosomatic reaction or a social-mental mimesis, bear with me while I present something a bit more fantastical but which may yet contain a kernel of truth. I don't necessarily believe what follows, but there's a coherence to it. Each of the four known fundamental interactions in physics has at least two mathematically-equivalent expressions; a kinematic particle theory and a field theory. I propose that a tendency towards awareness is built into the mathematical structure of the universe and constitutes a fifth fundamental force. If we grant this, it becomes apparent that we have the particle theory already; we express to one another abstractions of our experience in the form of discrete packets of meaning when we use language. However, certain experiences can not be adequately described using words, experiences which can sometimes be understood with no sensory signals exchanged; this phenomenon defies orthodox cognitive science and demands the formation of a non-local field theory of consciousness. In this treatment, a conscious entity can be modeled as a self-reinforcing system of waves in dynamic equilibrium with it's environment and it's prior conditions. When two of these systems approach one another, the probability that they will exchange wave packets approaches unity. Note that the distance referred to here is most likely not necessarily a physical length, but rather some type of cognitive displacement; people with similar past experiences often have less trouble synchronizing their oscillations than those who differ more, transmitting cognitive wave packets via sympathetic resonance. I'm getting a bit tired and want to post what I have so far very soon. Suffice to say that historical inquiries into mind-body dualism provide a useful framework for fleshing this out more. Whether or not it reflects reality, I'm gonna try and use what I have to develop a way to detect fluctuations in this field, if for no other reason than a plot device for a work of fiction.
Theory of universal consciousness? Theory of communication with close ones without even speaking? yes, it happens.....but i fight against it....will constantly change what I think and feel to ditch any of it...i walk alone. period. animals...another story...that is fine. I cannot stand most people.
if you stick to your center, you can regulate the extent to which you resonate. edit: imagine if you could identify what someone was tripping on buy waving a detector wand over the person's head. How cool would that shit be?
