It's funny, A Clockwork Orange is Anthony Burgess's most widely-received novel, and was translated into a classic film, but he hated it with a passion. He always said that he wished he could divorce his name from that piece forever.

Also interesting, when Burgess wrote the book the American publisher made him cut the last chapter, totally changing the ending of the book. In Europe, the book was published in its original format (btw, you can get the original version in America today). However, when Kubrick made the film, he decided to use the American version of the novel as a basis (adding to Burgess's dislike).

The book, as usual, is better than the film. I still like the movie, though. Malcolm McDowell is talented.

i loved the film-had no idea it was banned for 20 years! (that just makes it cooler, doesnt it?;)) i tried reading the book in high school-couldnt get the language. maybe ill try again. id like to own a used copy so i wouldnt have to worry about getting it back to the library.

Not Stanley Kubrick's best film & not venerated a masterpiece by any noted film critics, but a controversial & popularist film:

    a clockwork orange.
    one of my favorites.
    pretty graphic and odd.
with a bad sense of humor.
    but still, a classic, nonetheless.

A clockwork orange is possibly the best movie of all time. Stright up.
I saw this weird thing in an art magazine once for a remake around the same scenerio called a clockwork tangerine or something? It was weird. Right right right.

i loved this movie. i saw when i first came out back in 1973 (i think.) i even own it on dvd. i love it so much that when i was in college i wrote a smut book (fuck book) entitled "a cockwork orange." well that book did help pay my way through college.

The book by Anthony Burgess is better than the Kubrick film.I read somewhere that Mick Jagger was going to play 'Alex' in a Rolling Stones film version way back in 1965!.

I saw it ages ago, I'll always remember that one scene where they sit Alex down and force him to watch scenes of ultra violence and rape while the play Beethoven, that was the scene that really stood out for me. It actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, graphically that is, the themes were very strong, but there were no actual rape scenes, and the violence was pretty tame imo.

When I was a kid, and I saw the video tape cover, I use to think the movie was about pool, don't know why, but the cover just looked like a chick playing pool, the eye ball was a ball, and the dagger was a pool stick, and the pose kind of looked like she was bent over a pool table taking a shot.

    I love this trailer:

    Scary, yet so cool.
