I caught the love despite being separated by vast distances :grouphug:

It sucks too they only have 4 windows for visiting time for the N-ICU and they do it in 20 minute increments, so I have to go from like 1:30-1:50, and then either kill time in that area until 6:00 when the next visiting window opens up and can be with her for another 20 minutes, or else drive home and turn around and drive back into the city a few hours later which really isn't an option cause I live an hour and a half away from this hospital... I wish I could like stay there with her, very hard to have to leave her like that

Its just really hard cause shes my mother, and I love her as such... the bleeding on the brain is significant, and they are trying to get that under control and attempting to very slowly and gradually get her blood pressure down. She had to be airlifted into Buffalo General for immediate care...Today was the first day I was able to get any information from the doctors and nurses because of the HIPPA (health information privacy & accountability) laws; we had to go through some extra paperwork since she cannot sign consent to allow family members access to her medical information. But anyways the doctor said its far too early to tell, but he expects that at least some of the paralysis will be permanent due to the extent of bleeding on the right side of the brain... but he said to remain hopeful and that they've been very surprised in the past and have been wrong about this kind of thing so he was very hesitant to give out any long term prognosis at this point.

I've been in touch with a nurse manager and her social worker at the hospital, and they said if they can get her stabilized and out of the ICU then they would bring her down to the 5th floor which is rehabilitation for stroke patients and they will evaluate her there and see what they can do for her, the extent of the damage and paralysis, etc... they have Gates Vascular Institute there which specializes in vascular conditions such as stroke, and has an extremely well renowned reputation as being the best and most state of the art facility that this area has to offer for that type of care. They have individual rehabilitation programs for the large muscle groups (calf, legs, etc), a program for the smaller muscle groups (arms, hands, feet, toes, etc), speech therapy program, DynaVision machines designed to rehabilitate the eye, and programs they do toward the end to try to get people re-accustomed to everyday activities which they will be encountering once they are released and so on and so forth... So Im trying to take comfort knowing shes in the best place she can possibly be for this, but its not easy I'm having a real hard time with it.... like I said, shes much more than an aunt to me; shes my mother and my best friend.

Fortunately all the nurses, doctors and general staff I have met there so far are extremely loving, caring, professional, and devoted to their cause.

My thoughts are with you and your Aunt.

A real testament to who she is and she raised is your post. It would make her very proud to read it.

Remember to take care of you also as when she starts to feel better she will need you. So you stay well too.

I think its great that you came here and told us about this. You'll get a lot of love, positive energy (and prayers) from here, I am sure.

 

the critical care units are really strict. i hope she gets moved to where you can see her more often.

if you want you can pm me where you are, it makes it easier to direct the energies.
when my mom had hers i was in the ER with her, and i had to tell her why she was there and what had happened like every 5 minutes. she would forget in between tellings, and her face would just fall and she would look terrified, she knew that aneurysm+stroke= bad news. then she would forget why she was there, and i had to tell her again, and watch her panic. for hours. i still feel fucked up about it.

4. Rituals only have this effect if you are a participant. Watching others will not have the same effect.

Rituals enhance the taste of food because they heighten interest and awareness in the experience, which can heighten your senses.
