A Brand New Metal...metallic Hydrogen!

    Scientist have created a metallic form of hydrogen under extreme pressure. It has never existed on Earth until now.
    The hydrogen was squeeze between to ultra pure synthetic diamonds to a pressure of 71.7 million pounds-per-square inch.

    If the hydrogen remains metallic once the pressure is removed it may possibly be used as a room temperature super conductor or the most powerful rocket propellant ever made, being ten times lighter than currant fuels.

    Maybe they can use it to detect signals from alien planets.

    More cool new science with outrageous hypothesised potential applications.

    I wouldn't want a mobile phone with metastable hydrogen microstrip in it, developing a brain tumour would be the least of your worries...
