HI there. I found this forum while searching for communal living. I am 39 year old female and am tired of the rat race. Always felt like I didn't belong in it anyways. I have raised dogs and cats my whole life and have also volunteered in rescue of wildlife. I went to massage school and also try to live my life as holistically as possible. I have raised 2 daughters so I have plenty of experience with children. I am looking for a life where I can be one with my surroundings, giving and taking naturally from it. I have a labrador retriever that I would be bringing with me that I have used for therapy visits. Are pets allowed ?

Spirit, what's the town? I have my family in a little town called Amherst (few minutes north of Lynchburg). The people of the area are really friendly and there are more than a few Pagans around (even though Lynchburg was the home of Jerry Falwell). I'd love to check you guys out.

@Spirit Wynd I am very interested in your post. I'm female, mid 40's, very healthy and into holistic health. I have done some organic gardening in the past, am a very good cook (did it professionally for awhile) and to top it all off, I am one of those extreme minimalists. I have a creative imagination in seeing a product being sold for mega comfort and dollars and can re-create it typically with ordinary things laying around.

I have been on my own since March of 2006, meaning I was able to leave mainstream *&^%#! I have been having an itch... there is something bigger, better and more I can contribute to/for. I love nature and all that comes with it, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

I have no pets, one independent child (not coming with), and no other strings, ties or obligations standing in my way. I can make it to VA on my own but I'm getting way ahead of myself. Are you still searching for an additional person? I am a very open-minded, totally non-judgmental, laid back kinda throw-back hippie. It would be fantastic if you would email me in reply to this post. :)

My email addy is; xstormiex at gmail.com I hope to hear from you soon.

P.s. If anyone else knows of this type of set-up please feel free to shoot me an email.

Hey everyone, sorry for the delay, I haven't had PC access for a time... I'll be going back to VA later this week, hope you didn't think I forgot about you.
After I get settled a bit with moving, I'll get to ya and start having ya come visit a few at a time until we're better situated for more people.

Hope all is well with you,
    Peace and blessings,
    Spirit

Good to see you're still around, only been checking in via cellphone for the past few months myself. Hangin in Colorado for now, looking to make some cash / get a vehicle but a visit is absolutely on my to-do list, hopefully by that time I'll have some more tools and such gathered up. :cheers2:

    Hi SPIRIT WIND!
Colorado is awesome! I was in Denver and the Springs..phenomenal mountain views!
Im inquiring about the room available on the land? What are the possiblitites of living arrangements there?
    Who am I?
I am a performance artist/ PEACE activist who seeks a place without commercialism and chaos.
A place that is filled with love because I truly love people!
I am a young, single mom to a home-schooled 11 yr old and my baby brother (who is like a son) is 19. We are not your average family, but that’s what makes us so special. We seek a place where we can grow veggies, play music, laugh and do our share.
We enjoy contributing to hard work when needed and do not mind getting dirty. I consider myself an EXCELLENT cook and housekeeper…plus I love being with all-around good kids like my own.
My boys are strapping, young lads full of energy and laughter.
I’m a tomboy who loves to play my bass, sing, climb trees and enjoy my family.
They keep me young. (im 30)

If my family might be a good fit, I would love to talk to the person seeing people for the VA communal living thing...possible August arrival.
We are currently on the road without a phone (by choice) but we have 24 access to the internet.
    Thank you for your time!

Hey everyone, I'm finally back in VA and getting there situating my stuff...
Man, it's nice down here vs. NJ, way less humidity and cool nights which are great around the fire.
Hey Fritz, we have plenty of tools, so save the cash for other necessities, animals always need food, we're saving for solar paneling, etc.
We, have extra beds in the big cabin, plenty of camping space, or a place to park an RV, but you must be able to pay your own electric if you go that way, as mentioned, we're a new commune and the money isn't there yet.
The 40 acre lot next to us was clear cut, but they left the tree line by the house and cabin, so there's plenty of scrap wood to be gathered and cut for firewood...a big help preparing for winter and the garden needs prep soon for the second planting and other projects to keep us busy, but don't fret, though we work hard, we still take it easy and pace ourselves, and always hang by the fire or such, we don't do slave labor, only ask that you pull your weight and work within your bodies limits.
We're accepting visitors now, so if you're still interested, send me a pm with your email and phone number... the owner prefers to chat and give some details before inviting people over.
Oh ya, we went swimming the next day at the river and part of the day were F-16 fighter jets doing manuvers in the area, it was awesome watching them from the water.
Umm... the Asian pear trees are doing well and almost ready to harvest and we got a bunch of pecans from a neighbor with a nice tree full of them. I'm going to atempt to build a makeshift brick oven behind my cabin...Mmmm, baked bread, cookies, muffins, amd pancakes on top.

Well it's late and lots to do on the morrow... TTYL,
    Peace all,
    Spirit

Awww arite'. Pretty sick of Colorado and Denver has always been one of those "Trap" cities that never likes letting me leave easily... Sent my email & Phone # but as of later today I think the phone will be the only way to contact me. (Guess I could hit a coffee shop with wifi but I need to fix the power cord to the laptop first)

See ya' "soon" (Need to find work in Denver and make busfare or find rideshare )

    Just a tool check

100 Lb+ Anvil, 8Lb. cross peen hammer, a few cold chisels and a pile of old scrap metal somewhere? I'll just make aything else I need from that point. ;)

But a RotoZip or a Dremel with cut off and grinding attachments would be helpful, as would a good hacksaw, at least it would save me from making treadle powered substitutes. :D

We gonna' have some fun in them thar' Hills ya'll. :cheers2:

Any Welding equipment onsite? (MiG, Stick or Oxy-Acetalyne)

And did you ever find any fire clay around there yet? (The Grey stuff)

Gonna be nice to till soil thats really soil and not sun baked clay & sand for a change.

And as far as any rock formations in the area, any idea what type? (Sandstone, Granite etc.)

What are the Dominant trees in the area? Anything we could make Bow's from once I forge out a drawknife?

Ok I'll stop, just feeling a bit giddy.

No welding stuff, though the owner can weld too, plenty of hack saws, and tons of tools, as for clay, the creek is like 5 feet down the bank which is mostly gray clay and the kids that just visited made things and sun dried them into rocks(plenty of potential there, maybe find a sellable product), the soil here is red dirt and clay, but we have donkey, horse, pigs, turkey and chicken shit mixed in the garden so plenty of fertile soil, problem is rain, we need to set up something to irrigate from the water pump, its still producing, but can do far better. Not much rock stuff like in the mountains which are about an hour away, but there are some nice slabs in the creek, especially by the swimming hole. Also many varities of tree's here, critters too, it's like we have several regions in certain areas, a mild desert up top the hill, swamp down the valley, woodlands everywhere, lake down the road and a river 3 miles the other way(close enough to ride a bicycle to).
Well it's late and I'm sore and tired from hauling a pile of logs onto the tractor cart, driving it to the work bench and cutting them into fire wood, I still have to split them with the axe.
    CYA later...peace.

    SW-

I am new to this website, but am very interested in your post. My girlfriend and I (I am a girl to btw) have been thinking about moving off the grid. I am an art teacher and she is kind of a jack of all trades. we are both extremely hard working and looking to find a group of like minds to live with. We are 29 + 31, no kids but a couple of dogs-one 9 and one 2. We are in NC right now, but would love some more information about your place, you, and what kind of people you are looking for. If I can figure out how to send you a PM, I will give you my email--otherwise hopefully I can get a response from you on here. peace be with you

Well, I've landed in Commerce City and theres actually a good amount of work for me in these parts. Dude who owns this place is gonna let me run in his old Bronco so I can actually get to gig's without worry (Well short of the old Ford giving up) so I think I'm gonna plant myself here for a while as when fate tosses good stuff like this in your lap it's just downright rude to walk away. But at least we'll have the welder and anvil and so forth when I get there sometime down the road. (I have a bit of a fetish for wrought Iron fencing & decor I guess)

That cluster of micro-climates you have really has me wanting to at least come for a peek though, probably come visit for a minute in the relatively near future. :cheers2:

hey, yea sorry. i should have posted info, but i got a little too excited. currently, im 19. i attend my local Community College. I am majoring in photography. No one seems to understand me here. i live in NY. i feel that a community such as this one would open the doors to a better/ more worthwhile life. My mom had a job for 35 years, got fired, and is now on un-employment. why would i want to go to school just to end up like that?? I want a place where i can actually contribute my skills to better a certain location.

If you put a tool in my hand, give me a minute or 2 and i can figure it out. carpentry and manual labor are my 2 strong points. i love heavy lifting and exerting myself. I can easily build cabins (with some help of course) and i like planning. or having a guideline to work by.

Living in the wild is my life goal. if anyone has ever seen/ read "Into the Wild" that is exactly what i want to do. but the moral of his story is "Happiness is best when shared" so instead of going off on my own, why not share my skills and abilities with other people.

I hope this was enough info. if its not, please feel free to ask for more. i already PM'd you my cell phone number. feel free to call as well.

    peace

hello, im robin and i live in oklahoma with my partner/boyfriend and my one year old son. we are looking for a community of open minded and free thinking people who will take us in and give us an opportunity to cultivate ourselves. in oklahoma we have been shown a lot of discrimination because we are not married and this is the bible belt. i am a christian, but not a confrontational evangelist. i just want to be free to raise my baby to love God. my church will not let me take any positions of leadership because i am not married. im not as close to my family as i used to be, most days i feel like i am wasting my life by not fulfilling my potential. if you would like to contact me

Hey I would love to come check this place out. I have some income each month so I can help financially also. I'm a nurse aide now trying to get back in school for nursing. I was raised on a farm, we grew our own veggies and had a few animals. I also know how to can and make jellies, I used to love to do that stuff. I am a fast learner and a very hard worker! Ok now the part that you might not welcome I have 3 kids, ages 10, 6, and 2 and I have been caring for my mother. She wants me to put her in a nursing home but I just haven't had the heart to since I am qualified to care for her. The oldest 2 they could help with anything, the baby well he tries. Please Pm me, me and my kiddo's are living in a kinda bad situation (not really a bad situation, just a bad place there is stupid people making meth everywhere around here and I dont want my kids growing up around it) and would like to start over! Thanks!
