80's Children's Book - Looking For Name

Hi!

I am trying to find a children's book. I would have read this in the mid-80's. There is a couple going to bed. The wife gives the husband a to do list. One of the items on the list was to "Leave the door ajar". The husband places a jar by the door. All the other items were things like this that the husband took literally.
