Here's to those who died defeating Fascism in Europe. Let us not forget either that 27 million Russians died in defeating Hitler, and were the main cause of his defeat. As for the jingoism some people have about it, here's a tonic:
Right after the war ended, my school ( and I suppose most others around the nation ) started sending toothbrushes, soap and other articles( that we brought from home/store) that those in Europe lacked because of the war causing supply lines to disappear and because of the destruction. Don't know if that was part of the Marshall plan or not. We also brought dimes to school for The March of Dimes and I think that they went for the same type cause. Mid to late 40s.
