My girlfriend asked me the other day what the significance of the number 666 was. I replied to her that in the christian religion that 666 was referred to as the number of the beast and is subsequently referred to as the devil. I got to thinking about this number of the beast statement. In Gnostic text "On the Origin of the World"... "the interpretation of 'the beast' is 'the instructor'. For it was found to be the wisest of all beings." One may say that the beast could be referred to as the children of Eve. "...the female instructor of life. Her offspring is the creature that is lord. Afterwards, the authorities called it 'Beast', so that it might lead astray their modelled creatures."
The Ghostics were silenced by the more prominent church, it could be that the idea of the devil was used to stigmatize their ideas
I don't really think that the Gnostics have ever been silenced. I think the Gnostic influence in our society is very prevalent and precise. Those who are conscious can see it.
Right, most things start somewhere. I'd like to know precisely where it mentions 666. I'm losing some sleep over this.
