surprisingly, i actually joined when i was much older.

totally sorry i didn't recognize what it was. no, i've never paid for cable. nor purchased a tv that i can recall doing at any time in the past 40 years. i've lived and worked occasionally during that time in places that came with them. so yah, i probably have watched things that were on it. two and a half years ago i lived in a place by myself that came with direct, i think it was, so i watched link, and some of the others once in a great while. but really, its just that things that interest me, don't sell enough post toasties, or whatever the reason is, but they're just never on tv, and only mentioned in a negative context when something bad happens to or about them. i just, i'm sorry, but excitement is boring to me. its not/i'm not trying to be anything. it just is.

Really? That was the year I joined...it was the winter break of my first year in college...I think, so end of 03. Yep, it was.

 

i had already lived half my life before there even was an internet. i remember all the bullshit about how the world was going to end in the year 2000. dead people were going to get welfare checks and planes were going to fall out of the sky, because operating systems and applications mostly only used the last two digits for the year.

well if the place started in 96, it must have been along about 98 when i joined.

as for young/old. i'd already lived half my live and was over 30, before there even was such a thing as the internet.
i was 29 the first time i saw an actual retail computer store. that was in 77, the year i moved up to oregon, where i lived in until 87.

Back then I was still hotly debating the O J Simpson Trial on the Court TV Message boards. The posters on that message board were fanatic, some were posting 24/7

If not for an act of God (The 1994 Northridge earthquake which severely damaged the Santa Monica courthouse)

I remember this time we had tanks of nitrous in the 90s and posting on this site. we thought this was some underground base in New Mexico with aliens and shit.

 

i love underground bases with aliens and shit. well maybe not the shit. but underground 'basis' FOR people from other worlds and their equipment. new mexico is further south then i care for, or i mean too close to the equator. just as far from it on the other side might probably be ok too.
