ha ha. Paul first. In South Africa the British created internment camps during the Second Boer War. DQ - Why am I not surprised?
Yea, well I'm not saying the Brits walk on water, you know. I realize that they've had more than their share of faults, since I do have a degree in History. I'm just not feeling all that patriotic right now for a whole lotta reasons.
Same here. I love British History, and I am planning on getting my ph.D in British Literature. I have always had a love affair with the country. No country is perfect, but the HISTORY behind Britain. It makes me happy.
Hey thanks. That's if I can get into the program I want. If not, maybe I can teach there someday. Always have a backup plan.
Yea, the British have had their share of things to be ashamed of, like the ones you mentioned and the Opium Wars being another example. I just don't think this country's lived up to the principles that the Revolution was about in the first place-I've had my rights trampelled on by this government so much, and seen it happen to other people, that I've lost any of the patriotism I once had. Understanding history, I think, is really important for putting all of this in the right perspective. If we don't understand history, then we don't understand the present, either.
If we want to look to a country that sets a good example of freedom, forget Britain. Look at the Netherlands. Not that the Dutch are perfect. Their history is absolutely horrendous, just like everybody else's. But at least they seem to have learned something from it. At least they've given up on the War on Drugs. Hey, it's a start.
Yea, from what I know about the Netherlands I would have to agree. Anyway, we don't have a "War on Drugs"-we have a War on People. That's what it's really about.
Yeah, well... all wars pretty much come down to that, don't they? But as for Great Britain, forget it. She's America's bitch. Just like sometimes, I think America is Israel's bitch. I'm no anti-Semite, but I believe Ariel Sharon once said as much.
i can see your against it. but it was a great day for americans. are you american? if not, then you don't know what it feels like. i'm not american but i have some freinds that are.
