I had this theory around 1990, that there is a strong social movement (in the USA in particular) every 30 years. Decide for yourself: 1870'S RECONSTRUCTION ERA. But read Reconstruction era - Wikipedia "...The Reconstruction era was the period in American history which lasted from 1863 to 1877. It was a significant chapter in the history of American civil rights...." So apparently I was off by one decade with this one. But still. 1900'S PROGRESSIVE ERA. But read Progressive Era - Wikipedia "...The Progressive Era was a period of widespread social activism and political reform across the United States that spanned the 1890s to the 1920s...." So again I might have been off by a decade. 1930'S NEW DEAL ERA. But again New Deal - Wikipedia "...The New Deal was a series of programs, public work projects, financial reforms, and regulations enacted by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in the United States between 1933 and 1936...." So at least this time I was dead on.. 1960'S THE RADICAL 60'S AND CIVIL RIGHTS ERA: 1960s - Wikipedia (But cf. Civil rights movement - Wikipedia "...the movement achieved its largest legislative gains in the mid-1960s, after years of direct actions and grassroots protests that were organized from the mid-1950s until 1968.... So I may have only been partly right again. ) 1990'S THE FALL OF COMMUNISM. 1990s - Wikipedia ( But again: Revolutions of 1989 - Wikipedia "...The Revolutions of 1989 formed part of a revolutionary wave in the late 1980s and early 1990s that resulted in the end of communist rule in Central and Eastern Europe and beyond... So again, only partly right.) Still I was pretty close. And I am not saying it is anything paranormal. But it is still pretty interesting. But the weirdest thing yet, is it is now almost the 2020's, 30 years after the last one. So what will the future hold? Only time will tell... Also, I have to tell you all this story. As I said, I came up with the theory in c. 1990. And I was going to U of M/Dearborn at the time. So I got this idea to share it, by going into an unoccupied room and writing it on a chalk board. You have to realize there was no internet at the time. So what else could I do? But wouldn't it be interesting if someone saw it then, and was inspired, at least partly? You never know. Also, I have to tell you, the theory, though not paranormal, is often inspired by political defeat. In 1989, George Bush 1 got elected, in what many people thought was a stolen election (from Michael Dukakis, whom he ran against.) And now of course we have President Trump. So you never know.
I was very young (well, 9) when Dukakis didn't win. I remember a little better the other times in my life democrats didn't win. And of course there was the Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinski scandal. But I never really followed politics as closely as I have during this presidency. I feel like America might try to change some things that are very visible during this presidency. In that sense the time for social change may be just around the corner.
there's a cyclic phenomena to popular cultural perceptions. every era finds some way to be fucked up. but that's only because of when people convince each other to hate logic, (and then just can't understand how 'that' could happen) humans are really silly about this crap. comes from believing there's anything they can expect, or expect for more then a decade at a time anyway, if that.
Let's not call it the Trump Era yet, lets call it the Trump Years. If he gets re-elected we'll call it the Trump Era. Either that or the New Dark Ages.
