Haven't I heard all that somewhere before? And yet, did I see anything specific that I might do somehow different? Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Blah, blah, blah. What's in it for me? Well maybe not having to buy as much, which may help me be able to have free time to retire a bit sooner. I already do those 3 Rs. And yet I would consider being called an "environmentalist" an insult, because of what a bad name that so-called "environmentalists" have made it to be, by their irrational "environmental" obsession at the expense of the needs of people. I am too much a pack-rat, and wish I had time to sort through and get rid of more of the space-wasting junk, that I might supposedly, eventually find another use for. I am frugal, but no tree-hugging enviro-wacko.
get a vasectomy or histerectomy and VOTE for REAL transportation and energy alternatives. everything else, without doing that also, is just so much whistling in the dark and making ourselves feel good. vote at voting time and vote at the cash register BOTH. turning off a light, or replacing it with a more energy efficient one is all well and good, but it's what all of us do TOGATHER that counts. as long as electricty is produced and transportation propelled by combustion in any form, we are still screwing ourselves. and as long as there continues to be more of us we are too. and it's not "saving the environment", as if we were, or could be, doing the rest of the universe any favors: it's saving the ability of nature's cycles of renewal to continue to make it possible for ourselves to exist. which does bennifit from, and may depend upon entirely, its massive diversity. =^^= .../\...
how about turning of the lights when ever your not ina room my mom and sis can never follow that one pisses me off...
Pronatalist and that other guy are such idiots. I dont say that kind of thing often, but i will here Back on topic (as this is a thread for people who actually care)... flushing the toilet when all youve done is have a pee...WHY? Absolutely no need, and its "civilisation" gone mad, if you ask me. Flush your poops down and keep it at that! Toilets use SO much water...our water here was cut off for 3 weeks a few weeks back, and we had to fill up the toilet using mineral water...omg, it cost a FORTUNE, it was like 12 litres per flush. Were now going to invest in one of those lower flush toilets Weve found going vegan to have reduced our waste tremendously, and thats only our visible waste. Were also contributing to lowering pollution levels (majorly) and helping to stop the chopping down of the forests, in our own tiny way. Its all we can do. But as others have said, its strength in numbers, the more who make the choice, the bigger the impact When shopping we never use the plastic bags to put around our fruit and veg, we just wash it in a little water when we get home. We also take our own backpack to the store, so we dont have to use their plastic bags (why they still provide these in the millions in Britain is beyond me) We dont drive. Give up your car if possible. Here in England its all very small and public transport exists widely. If you must drive, share cars, do it as little as possible, and only own one car Turning off the lights is a habit picked up quickly and is easy Uhm, ill think of more
Also lots can be grown indoors effectively, like lettuce and cress. Its a very little way to help, but those things come in wrappers and plastic pots at the store. And home grown is so much more satisfying!
Turn off your TV and take a walk in your nearest forest/field/wasteland/park/wherever you fancy! Or get on your bike!
