3 Days to Kill Movie Blurb by Shale February 22, 2014 This movie appears to be action adventure, but it is mostly drama and black comedy. A quarter of the aggregate reviewers on Rottentomatoes thot it was good and 60% of audiences liked it. It may only appeal to ppl who really like Kevin Costner's screen presence and can personally relate to an ageing 59-year-old guy who wants to quit his job but is tied to commitments and can't. We start with the intrigue at CIA headquarters where enthusiastic black ops Agent Vivi (Amber Heard) is given an assignment in Paris to take out the Wolf (Richard Sammel) a baddie giving nukes to terrorists. Trouble is no one knows who he is so they have to shake down some underlings to find him. She is told that Agent Ethan Renner (Kevin Costner), their experienced lifer is in Paris taking care of that. Ethan Renner at Work But, it turns out that Ethan is sick with a koff that he thinks is the flu. While engaged in wiping out several bad guys in the hotel and giving chase to an associate of the Wolf, Albino (Tómas Lemarquis) he actually passes out, bleeding from the mouth. Ethan wakes up in the hospital with a diagnosis of terminal brain cancer that has gone to his lungs - 3 months to live. That is when he contacts his ex-wife Christine (Connie Nielsen) who lives in Paris with their daughter Zoey (Hailee Steinfeld), both of whom he has neglected in his clandestine career. Family Reunites He tells Christine his prognosis and his desire to reconnect before he dies and she is sympathetic to her old flame. Of course the daughter is estranged from her father and has serious attitude. So this is now the direction of the movie, a family drama. And, even tho he told Christine he has stopped working for the agency, he gets contacted by the aggressive killer agent Vivi, who bribes him back into the chase for Wolf by giving cash & benefits and an expensive experimental medicine that may just buy him some more time. Vivi & Ethan So, the movie now shows how Ethan is working two jobs. He goes off on his day job and tortures/kills enemy operatives then goes to Zoey's school to handle her discipline issues. Or, intimidates her BF (A major daddy job). Slowly, Zoey starts to appreciate her absent dad, who gets a chance to explain some of his neglect over her lifetime, tho she is not fully aware of his occupation. Ethan & Zoey Connect I found this movie very entertaining, but I also liked RED, which it somewhat resembles. Could be an age thing that makes me relate to it more than some younger ppl would. I'll be getting the DVD when it comes out.
