Just turn over a flat rock, kick some dirt and dump the load. Paper towels ripped into quarters. Replace rock.

I lived off the land 11 miles north of Blythe, CA. for about 6 months. Scooped carp up out of the pools left in irrigation ditches when the sluices gates were closed. Shot squirrels and rabbits, robbed beehives and "harvested" crops of sorts from the fields. I didn't have dogs to feed back then though.

Thanks oldart. Yeah...it gets a tad warm. Not too bad here in the semi-high country though.

Thanks biscuits&yarn. The Devil's Racetrack is just too cool. I need to go back and really spend some time there.

If you liked the sunsets, check out the sunset gallery on my website. There's a few more there.

P.S. Fantastic about your land and dreams. I hope that you accomplish them all.

Thanks Dude. It needs to be updated. There's hundreds of good sunset photos, landscapes and critters that I haven't linked to the public pages. Too lazy, I guess.

Man, if I wasn't married with kids I'd be living free too. Not that I don't like my life now, but it has restrictions. Keep it up. It looks like you're living the life, man.

    TwoDawg,

Do you have family that you see on a some kind of regular basis?

    Thanks.

I read the entire thread...the best in a while. Most people talk...few do. Kudos 2daw.

I'm sure that having a life with a wife and children provides blessings that I lack in my life. I knew waaaaaay back in my rebellious youth that I'd make a crappy parent so I never had kids. Besides...if I had children my parents wish that I have one JUST LIKE ME might come true and I'd be doing time in Hell.

I saw my mother and sisters two years ago. It was the first time since 1983.

    Thanks dude.

I just want people to know that it can be done. Cheaply. I work maybe one weekend a month, do the swapmeet, and occasionally eBay when I need cash and am able to live comfortably. My lifestyle is pretty much recession-proof. I have, however, cut back 50% on the gas consumption, but it's not too restrictive. I just don't get to post here as much.

Wow, I appreciate the thread. That's something I wouldn't be able to do.. I feel too much of an obligation (and desire) to have kids and get married, so I don't think I'd be able to buy a van and driveabout.

I do envy your ability to do that though! You must feel insanely free.

Your young, no reason you can't live your life, do what you want for a while, and still later on in life make room and time for a family. Don't sell yourself short, no need to get married and have kids at 20!

    Hi Mate

Really good to hear somebody else who is already been doing this for so long. I'll be heading off in a few weeks or so and have no intention of living in a house again until they cart me off to an old peoples home.

Might have to get some pointers of you at some stage..

Just have to take it as it comes...day by day. Some things may not be too pleasant but you accept and adapt. Life is an adventure when you're not tied to the grid. Those that are afraid to die are too scared to live.
