  1. The new Dark Crystal takes some jabs at Trump. At one point one of the skeksis says, "Sad. So sad," when someone has no tithe to pay him. It's a really good show. I started watching it last night.

What is trump at now? Something like 12,000 falsehoods in 2.5 years.

You've made it very clear you support EU-style hate speech laws. You either support the first amendment, or you believe the government has the moral authority to regulate what can and can't be said. Pick one, cuz you can't have both.

Oh yeah, it's Alex Jones who's the only one who spreads kooky conspiracy theories. LOL

Ah, you must mean Sticks and Stones with Dave Chappelle :D

That was such a good stand-up. He got the Twitterazzi pissed off with his LGBTLMNOP jokes, #metoo jokes, Jussie Smollett, and more.

I got called a white supremacist by some crazy leftist on Twitter this morning for defending Dave Chapelle :tearsofjoy:

For the record, I never thought Chapelle was a political advocate at all. Just a common sense comedian who directs his jokes at all the right people.

  7. I watched it last night. Comedians don't really make me laugh. It was okay. I liked it just for listening to him talk, but it wasn't "haha" funny to me.

Oh, really? False dichotomizing again are we. I support American-style judicial decisions on protected and non-protected speech--reasonable limitations of individual license. I know it cramps the style of folks who want to use speech to assassinate character, incite riots, threaten national security, and/or undermine public order. The Supreme Court has made clear, few rights are absolute and the First Amendment isn't one of them.

How predictable. It takes a slimeball to know a slimeball, so once again you give us conspiracy theorist Paul Joseph Watson, Alex Jones' right hand man, to give us a high dudgeon rant in defense of his alter ego. Being attacked by the likes of him should be taken as a badge of honor.

As a matter of fact, I meant A.F. Branco, the demented alt right cartoonist responsible for the specimen in the post I was responding to. How did you happen to drag Dave Chappelle into it?

Off topic but I wanna talk about something fun right now rather than engage in tedious political arguments :)

But I watched parts of this the other night and as a resident loony lefty snowflake, I thought it was hysterical. In a "ohhh I know he didnt just say that" kinda way lol
I dont really think Dave Chappelle was trying to get political, I think he was just poking fun of the current social/current zeitgeist.
And pushing the boundary as far as he can to show the boundary can still be pushed in comedy, and that anything is fair game in comedy as long as it is framed in a clever and funny way

  14. This didn't go so well for Michael Richards. But then, he went after hecklers live and the rant devolved quickly and in a most hostile manner. To call it a meltdown is mild, it looked like a crackhead way overdue for the next bump. Since then his life has turned into comfortable shit. Any attempt to recover as a performer has failed.
Looper has an excellent article on it.....
The real reason we don't see Michael Richards anymore

"For anyone living under a rock who somehow missed this, in 2006, Michael Richards was involved an incident at The Laugh Factory in which he went on an insanely racist rant after being heckled during his stand-up routine by some African-American audience members. To say Richards lost his temper would be an understatement. He exploded into a rage, making a reference to a lynching and then repeating the N-word several times.

It was a shocking outburst for anyone to make, and it was especially jarring coming from the goofy guy who America fondly remembered sliding through Jerry Seinfeld's apartment door every Thursday night.

Though Richards didn't seem poised to be making any kind of comeback at the time, this incident became a viral sensation in a time when viral sensations were just starting to become a thing. After making several odd and poorly received apologies, Richards retreated from the spotlight like anyone who spontaneously burst into an accidental KKK speech understandably would."

In my opinion, the boundary has already been stretched way out of shape, at the expense of civility and taste. Nothing is sacred anymore, and that's a shame.

Sure, in terms of the political I agree. Our political leaders should be expected to always maintain a degree of class, decorum, civility

Comedy? Not so much. Comedy has always pushed boundaries and subverted social convention

  18. Sometimes a comedian will make light of something that bothers me personally, and I appreciate that. Dave Chappel did that in his comedy routine. I thought it was brave. But I still didn't actually laugh. I haven't really laughed in a long time. I just "say" "haha" when I find something funny. But I don't feel the respective joy that comes along with it. The last time I really had a good laugh was at that cat .gif where the cat stares at the toy bank that's collecting money. The memory even made me feel mirth a little just now.

I think comedians aren't just there to be funny, though. They're there to help as well. To take things that make us uncomfortable and paranoid and actually talk about them.

  19. I suggest you peruse the twitter account @islamicat as soon as possible. Eventually it will reach you for the absurdly clever humor. Some days, nothing. Then they slay me.
