2020 Election

  1. Seems to be working for them. Republicans are nowhere nearly as fractured as democrats. But that's normal. What's abnormal is the way the democrats are remaining factionalized heading into an election cycle.

The only candidate the democrats have running now who has a chance is Biden.

However, Biden backed out in 2016 so that Hillary could have her "turn" at the top seat. I think he blew the only chance he had at beating Trump. Now he's running as the guy who skipped the last election and has never actually faced Trump.

Also, Reagan accomplished far more in Hollywood off screen than on. That was his real talent. But I lived through his recession and lamented him daily for it. His grand plan was to bankrupt the USSR, at the cost of middle America. For that I'll be sticking pins in my Ronnie doll for years to come.

  2. I would say most of the candidates have a pretty good chance at beating Trump. The thing is that Trump isn't that hard to beat. A lot of Democrats idolize Hillary, so they can't understand how it's possible that she didn't beat Trump, making it seem, in their eyes, that he's a really strong opponent. But he isn't. She was just a terrible candidate that nobody wanted. If democrats had supported Bernie Sanders instead, we wouldn't be in this mess. He would have won. And it's the same situation now. Instead of running someone who says what they mean and means what they say, democrats are opting for the established candidate. Granted, Joe Biden is an easier pill to swallow for most people than Hillary was. But he's still all style and no substance.

The democratic party is torn, because, unlike Republicans, it has many intelligent voters who see through the facade. Most people are still clueless and will vote for whoever has the most name recognition, but a whole lot of people actually do want to live in a better country, and they can see that Joe Biden doesn't offer that. The problem with Biden is that he's nothing to get excited about. Otherwise, people hate Trump enough that he should win. If only he was fighting for, like, one policy that would help Americans... (And if only you could trust a word that comes out of his mouth.) That would be a plus.

    Really?

I like their solidarity. :) Think it's great they're supportive of one another. But I fear they are adding to the president's social media style of leading which we have all taken turns criticizing if you get my drift. It's partly the media doing it, and I hope they aren't starstruck by all the attention, but I think that there needs to be a lot of self control in this arena. That's all. Needs self control.

  5. I love the Squad. They represent a new generation of congresspeople who put their money where their mouths are and fight for Americans to get things accomplished. The establishment hates them, of course, but the establishment must die. They are elitist scum who don't represent anyone but themselves.

  6. I think that is exactly what has happened, and not to their credit. Fresh-people in Washington have traditionally been treated only slightly better than pages. They've been relegated to fetching bills, coffee, dry cleaning and filling water bottles with Vodka. This group called "the squad" seems to have risen above that right out of the gate. Without suffering any of the legwork. That's not likely to endear them with their peers either.

The problem for them is that they are vulnerable when the next election comes. If they aren't reelected, they don't get their cushy lifetime pension (that taxpayers support to prop up Washington cronies for life). Alienating the speaker of the house from their cause(s) was also a questionable move. Imagine being so caught up in the frenzy that you develop the nerve to pull the race card on Pelosi, of all people.

A political career is built upon relationships, usually across decades. Joe Biden is an example of this. He has been swapping favors for so long that people expect to see him in Washington simply because he's part of the scenery. He's been there longer than some museums. People make fun of him for not being fabulously wealthy, but those same people don't seem to understand how divestiture works. Joe knows very well! (So does Trump by the way)

  7. It's our money. They are public servants.

  8. Yeah, they are of a handful of people in Washington you could actually call "public servants." The establishment wants this hierarchy where everyone eats out of their hand and then once they're good little politicians, take over the throne. Bully to the Squad for saying fuck that.

    Fuck the establishment.

Yeah, and you have a functioning democracy as well :D ;)

  10. It was never meant to be a democracy. That's a term leftists use when they want to promote polarity. Another term they use in the US is "the popular vote" which isn't even a thing in the US because we are not a democracy.

If you don't get enough electoral votes, you don't win the top seat. And that's decided by states, which is what makes the US, Mexico and Uruguay unique. World Population Review refers to the US and many other nations as "flawed" democracies but does provide a list of actual democracies as well (there are 20 and include Uruguay, which is odd since Uruguay was founded with a copy of the US constitution). https://worldpopulationreview.com/countries/democracy-countries/

However, I don't see how this will affect the 2020 election. It would take decades to adjust the US system into anything similar to the systems used by much smaller nations. And that's only if the Americans actually wanted it 100%. Most don't seem to. Which is what Trump has capitalized (along with the utter disarray the democrats find themselves in these days).

  12. This is precisely what I expect to be their undoing. The only way to rework the establishment, short of civil war, is to infiltrate and deal with it from the inside. What's interesting is they are basically replicating Trump's methodology.

  13. Now THAT is a riveting comeback, so deep, so detailed. How could it not totally shift my paradigm?

  14. Nah, they're just not remotely interested in the game. The game where you "grow up" and start getting bribed by lobbyists.

  15. I still don't know how to do the eyeroll emoji. It isn't listed on my list of available emojis.

You say the term democracy is in America only coined by leftists (seems false) and only in order to polarize (also nonsense). Why in earth should that bogus remark deserve more than a rolleyes emoticon....
