  1. No, no. If I can't express myself eloquently without resulting to personal attacks then I am stupid and should shut up. It's pride messing with me.

I don't see what's convoluted about my logic at all. Trump actually did win based on an anti-establishment platform. You can't deny that. That was the whole buzz in 2016, that he was some maverick billionaire who was going to magically fight for the little guy. He wasn't bought by the establishment, because he could pay for his campaign himself.

In the past I would have said only a Republican could believe that one, but now I'm not so sure. And exactly what I say will happen is what is happening. Now everyone will say we need someone stable, which translates to an establishment Democrat or even someone like Mitt Romney. In 2020 some billionaire establishment Democrat will probably run against Trump. And then we can just have billionaire presidents from here on out and feel ever so safe and secure in their arms. They must know how to run the country; after all, they're rich. They certainly know how to create wealth for themselves...why not for the rest of us? (Dream a little dream.)

But what you, Okiefreak, seem to be saying is that anti-establishment thinking in general got us Trump. What a joke. So, in other words, you're perfectly fine with the United States becoming an oligarchy. Maybe you're super rich and it all works out fine for you, so you don't care.

The establishment is what got us Trump. You can't just have a Wall Street bailout to the tune of $700,000,000,000 dollars and not expect people to get fed up. And they were fed up in 2016, for good reason. Bernie was the solution, and even though he crushed Donald in the polls, the DNC still made sure that a grass roots candidate had no hope and went with Hillary Clinton. (And since 2016 they've passed regulations to make it even more impossible.) Donald and his scheming minions were aware that people were getting upset by this, and, given that the oligarchy had created a system by which the wealthy and celebrities have all the money and power, bought an election for themselves.

So, the Trump presidency really should actually weigh on your conscience, Okiefreak. If you keep voting in oligarchs, you'll keep getting rich celebrity presidents like Donald Trump who have no character but can afford to buy elections, guaranteed. It isn't on my conscience. I support people who are against this system.

You see, being against an oligarchy is what puts a stop to this madness. Not SUPPORTING it. Can you understand my logic here? Being AGAINST oligarchy puts an end to oligarchy, not SUPPORTING oligarchy. Catfish?

Unfortunately, thanks to Citizens United v. FEC, we don't know the full story is who is giving what to whom. If a progressive candidate could reject campaign contributions from unsavory sources and win, (s)he'd have my vote. So far that hasn't happened in national presidential races, although Bernie made a noble effort. If it's an unlikely choice between Beto and Trump, I'd go for Beto, even if the accepted checks from the petroleum polluters. Lesser of evils. Who knows where Trump gets his money from.

Oh...I like Elizabeth Warren. She stands for good causes. She's younger than Biden. She could get more of the Women voters to come out and vote. But, I'm willing to listen to all Democrats at this point.

I don't think Okie was saying that, Mel.

  7. Sure seems like that's what he's saying.

Best of luck to Elizabeth Warren. She'd make a wonderful president.

No, I wasn't. I prefer a progressive candidate, provided said progressive can win, but I'm willing to overlook lots of flaws if the candidate is better than Trump/Pence--which is admittedly a low bar.

I seem to remember a German bank was funneling money to him, maybe from Russia? Another thing I remember is what he told one late night talk show host on TV. It was about Lindsay Lohan being young, vulnerable, and easy.

Elizabeth is better suited to the senate, than to the White House.

  13. Why on Earth should that be the case?

If we get a woman like Elizabeth Warren or Kamala Harris for president the ordinary children would get better schools, the ordinary families would get better health care, the ordinary workers would get better pay, and with a sane person in that big white house we could get clean air and water again!

That's actually telling of the problems I see in American politics in so far as representation in Congress by senators and representatives. The people elected to represent us are not very good representations of us. The republicans may look professional, but I'm not sure how well they do in terms of representing anyone who is not. Is this to say we all need to be professionals? hmm

EDIT: and I don't think it makes the democrats any less qualified or professional that they are not all so uniform.

  19. With this particular batch, you get what they looked like in college as poli-sci majors. Same lines of division. This is less obvious today in terms of numbers. Being a college republican is less and less popular with the rest of the student body. Weird how that works out.

The Hopi Indians have a name for dishonest people. They call them Two Hearts, leading to deception. A good person is a True Heart, always honest. I think many of the Democrats are True Hearts. I also think most of the Republicans are liars who will say anything to retain power so they could make money.

  21. Bernie had his chance and succumbed to the Clinton Juggernaut. He's too old to be taken seriously, can he possibly survive a first term? Warren is your typical greedy old white lady who is clearly willing to tell any story to make a buck. Like Trump she thrives on conflict, so there will never be a moments' rest with her. At least with Hillary we could count on her passing out once in a while!
