All I really have to say is that Democrats could very easily recycle from their 1964 playbook. Sen. Goldwater's campaign slogan was "In your heart, you know he's right." Many Dems countered with "In your guts, you know he's nuts." It would be so easy to run that same line on the current president...

I'm betting there won't be much of a spike in Covid cases because the Floyd protests, giving further evidence the lockdowns were a waste of time, anger will grow as to who advised for them in the first place, it's still a long 5 months until the election, well past the average boomers attention span, economy will still be in the toilet and election will come down to that

So what happened in the US and UK was that the neoliberal/free market thinking politicians began by favouring the economy (wealth) over people’s lives (and probably assuming the wealthy could protect themselves and not really caring about everyone else) with ideas like ‘herd immunity’ and just ‘pushing through’.

But the scientific evidence was too strong to ignore so they reacted reluctantly.

But been wary of communal and government action such as testing, tracing and quarantines they didn’t put much energy into do things as other governments did and often suggesting things that other government imposed as public safety measures.

Then there was the lying and misdirection and blame game, with the biggest lie been that they were doing a brilliant job as the corpse mounted up.

And since they never really wanted to lockdown and don’t really care about those who die they are now pushing to open up too early.

The lie now being pushed seems to be that - ‘the lockdowns were a waste of time’ - that thousands of deaths would have happened anyway and would have been the same without any measures been taken.

The science was guff a leftie hoax to destroy the economy.

Neoliberalism has been spread through the belief that the herd are stupid and so the solution to any problem is to lie, misdirect and blame others.

Thing is that in many ways that strategy has normally worked, but is a pandemic a normal time.

 

The US has problems many highlighted on this forum – the thing is who is offering solutions?

Inequality, racial division, the power and influence of money in politics none of those things are going to be dealt with by Trump or those in society that support him if anything Trump’s time in the white house has exacerbated those problems, his tenure has made a an already bad situation worse.

 

Biden would not have been my choice, he seems to be from the conservative wing of the Democrat Party not the more progressive ones. But hopefully the progressive’s hand will grow stronger in upcoming elections, remember how the Tea Party radicals pulled the Republican Party even further to the right well my hope is that the Progressives can pull the Democratic party to the left.

In reference to your question, as I see it we need a whole new government, i.e. vote everyone , dems, and reps out of office. Start over, and that includes having a constitutional convention. Reset the rules for what it means to be a congressional representative. Obviously, get money out of politics.
Revise the justice system.

The question I keep asking is why would any rational person support Trump and the Republicans because no supporters seem able to put up any rational arguments.

Reasons to support Trump:

1. At the moment to call in the military and stop these disgusting riots
2. He will handle a post lockdown economy far better than the other mob, which yes, does impact on every other country in the world
3. He will actively work to limit the reach of the Chinese Communist Party, Biden will likely sell Americas soul to them
