There could be a lot of different reasons for this, but maybe one of them is that a significant number of voters were voting against hillary, rather than for bernie

 

???? What rest of government? Our celebrated checks & balances? That would depend on whether or not Bernie carried either or both houses of Congress. If he did, the courts might serve as a check on some issues. I think it's far more likely he won't get elected, and if he did, would be unable to accomplish much--like Obama. Then the Democrats would carry the stigmas of radical and failure. I think it's true:a majority of voters tend not to like abrupt change.

I'm wondering what you make of last night's results. California has been called for Bernie, but Biden did unexpectedly well elsewhere, the Bern not so much, and Elizabeth's showing was embarrassing. Does that suggest mass support for big changes? I'm afraid of a civil war within the party, with whomever loses & their supporters sitting out the general election and Trump getting another term. Hope I'm wrong about that, cuz I really do think it would be a disaster for the country. Back in the last days of the Weimar Republic, the prospect of Communism and Socialism making headway drove the business class into the arms of Hitler. Hope we don't have a replay of that.
