Privileged? Absolutely, but not elite. And that privilege is running out. So while I'm finishing college I get to live in my mom's house and pay 1/3 of the market rent, which I split with my roommate. So 2 best friends living together in the city paying each 1/6 of what anyone else would pay for a 3 bedroom house. But all that changes when I graduate. To indicate my level of privilege and how wildly stupid it is, I have dinner with my mom and stepdad every Sunday night. On the last or previous Sunday (whichever is closest to the 1st) I bring them my rent money. Then at the end of the night my mom always asks the same question "How are you? You ok? Do you need money?" I just gave you money now you're tryna give it back?? So I'm definitely privileged and spoiled and I only know that because someone pointed it out to me. Because if you're privileged you dont recognize that you're privileged. That's how it works

I got some privilege too. I've got what most people would consider a dream job, and I work really hard and am great at it, but I spent most of my 20's traveling around doing whatever I wanted, so being able to get my foot in the door... some luck or privelege was involved.

I dont really believe any media outlet is allowed to work in full independence of their owner like the editor says in that article, especially if the owner is Bezos. It's not like newspapers are particularly profitable anymore. Bezos wouldnt have bought it for profit, he bought it because if he can control the narrative in the media it can ensure he stays profitable in other ways. It can ensure people get it in their heads Sanders is more dangerous to the country than Trump because Amazon pays 0 taxes under Trump and Bezos would probably like to maintain that

Which is probably why Bloomberg is being pushed so hard. It's doubtful he'll overturn Trump's tax cuts but he'll be a return to normality in other ways

 

Or more specifically, it's not that hard to find another reason to fire someone than the actual reason. Editor naturally shys away from stories than mention Amazon because he thinks if he doesn't, 6 months down the track he will be told the board is looking at taking the paper in a "new direction" with another editor. I don't think anyone buys the purchase wasn't about propaganda

Having parents who care about you isn't the sort of "privilege" people are whining about these days. That's just having a normal, decent family. The privilege that gets all the hackles up is the sort that people supposedly receive for being rich, white or a local crony. Of course being white is the very worst privilege of all.

I hope for you that you're deliberately distorting what white privilege actually entails. Just trying to 'have some fun'. And not seriously think you're spot on here.

 

While it seems odd, what's the real reason it's being discounted? Is it because the democrats basically feel they "own" the oft touted "black vote" (which helped George Wallace hold the governor's seat many times over)? Since Trump has been courting democrats for decades, I don't think it's a stretch he might accomplish this with the sort of message the democrats don't dare utter.

His best line about all of this to black Americans was "what the hell do you have to lose"? And he was right. After decades of democrat ownership how has their lot in life improved? Not that the democrats are the sole owners of blame by any means. But before Trump were the republicans making promises of any substance to black Americans specifically? Of course not, they were campaigning for "all Americans" (especially their wealthy cronies).
