For some reason renting to people with completely sketchy backgrounds AND credit, seems to be normal in Atlanta. Having been homeless, I can certainly relate. I destroyed my credit trying to be a financial big shot playing bank float back in the 80s. A deposit was delayed and the whole mess came crashing down. Took many years to pay it all back. I had to rent a room in several homes that were converted into rooming houses. Some were just expensive enough for me to have trouble saving enough to get into a regular apartment.

Most of the landlords I have had only wanted to know when the money would arrive. Most of them also found flimsy reasons to deny my cleaning deposit be returned. There are SO many con artists in the rental business.

As for student loans, it's an intricate trap if you're careless about it. If you take deferments, the loan balance grows. This is our government, for the people, creating the potential for vortices of debt to haunt people to their graves. I guess it's better than actual chains or having to sell off body parts. Biden, Clinton and a few others let Sallie Mae turn into a government version of Enron, as a collection agency. A nightmarish debt factory.

Especially if you major in something deemed frivolous, limited or saturated. Good luck paying off that Scottish Castle Architectural History degree working at Home Depot.

Even back then Biden was a popular Washington fixer. That crime bill was a mess to be sure, lots of people I know have been snared by it. It was a knee jerk reaction to the crack epidemic. As slow as Washington moves, crack was declining substantially by the time the crime bill went into effect. It's also where the crack/powder issue was decided. However, that was a reaction to the petitioning Washington was getting from black community leaders and clergy. They wanted the crack dealers to go away and stay away so the communities could heal. And it actually worked. (today it's racist white supremacy or some such shit)

Without an even remotely functional conservative party, its every man and woman for themselves which, of course, means those with money behind them. The last thing the Democrats want is someone to start offering honest government outside the existing two parties. Presidential elections are binary choices. It's doubtful that any President is up to the job of taking care of all the deserving people and causes in the country. I'll settle for one who is decent, honest, competent and has the national interest at heart. That isn't Trump. I'm skeptical that any of the Democrats will take care of the poor woman's problems either, although some may at least give it a shot. My understanding is that previous presidents promised student loan forgiveness for those who entered public service or occupations servicing disadvantaged populations--and didn't always follow through.

I saw a sticker on a car something to the effect of "Any Competent Adult for President!" I think that summarized it well for a lot of people.

 

Which is exactly why Democrats will look for a nobody, a Casper Milktoast if they can find one in the available pool of sharks. The money is driving both parties, and its impossible to do it otherwise, without someone demanding serious champaign reform and election reform. If they nail Giuliani to the cross, like the Mafia bosses he emulates, it will be the signal to eat the rich, before they eat us alive. A little fine dining for the mindless mob.
