This is interesting. The results of the study point toward the effectiveness of mask wearing.

Some of my coworkers don't like their masks. I see lots of nose... or taking it off to talk on the phone, etc. :) I don't think it's because they're CoViD-19 deniers or supportive of deregulation. I think it has more to do with being harder to breathe, stuffy, and less comfortable. Still, it doesn't feel like we're on the same page about their (masks') importance.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, I guiltily delight in the implementation of the mask mandate because it instills a spirit of communal discipline. It's universal, and you can see who's taking it seriously, and who is prioritizing something else. It's a pretty accurate measure of personality if you ask me. LOL

Aside from that, it's just getting too bizarre

There aren't that many places in the world left that are actuallty in lockdown

All the world's media still seems to be going hammer and tongs with the Covid panic articles, when lucky if 1% of the world's population is in a lockdown, Manchester, some suburbs in Paris, some cities in the Philippines, that's about it

Local governments of the world just collectively decide, yeah screw that lockdown nonsense, no one told the media

Mask wearing; most places it's just strongly advised now, not enforced

Meanwhile, world has more infections than ever before; 490,000 in one day Oct 23 (a record) which does mean the case fatality ratio has dropped 80%

Ask the average Joe in UK, US, my country; how many people died in Peru the last 3 months, they wouldn't have a clue, because the media hasn't been reporting it, and they don't give a shit

....Even though they should be paying damn close attention if they want to know what happens in winter

So yeah, world will probably jump up to 2 to 3 million cases a day in January, the US, 1/4 million cases per day

Peru went from 66 cases and 2 deaths per million people per day in April to 300 cases and 9 deaths per million people per day in August, their winter. X 5 in both instances

No planning for January, show me any country in the Northern Hemisphere that has outlined a plan for winter

The chasm between reality and the media was ridiculous enough back in April, now it's just full plum loco

Your analogy is seriously flawed, comparing cigarette smoking (which is a choice) to catching a virus (which unless you live
on a college dorm or attended house party which hands out prizes) it's not by choice.

btw I've never smoked, and never will.

It's building up again, it was always going to take a good 6-18 months after the start of the pandemic for the economic wave to hit, we get to see the real effect over the coming year, took its time, but....

Nigeria protests: Police chief deploys 'all resources' amid street violence

"President Muhammadu Buhari dissolved the Sars unit - accused of harassment, extortion, torture and extra-judicial killings - days later, but the protests continued, demanding broader reforms in the way Nigeria is governed."

Your analogy is partially false there have been C-19 parties where the object is to actually get the virus as well as people who just dont give a fuck going out of there way doing stupid shit parties, crowded bars/restaurants etc

    Meanwhile in Aus;

$5m COVIDSafe app has only identified 14 coronavirus cases

A Budget Estimates hearing has revealed the Government’s COVIDSafe app has failed to reveal a single case of COVID-19 in almost a month.

This is despite the app’s cost doubling since last month. Health officials today said the app, which has been downloaded by seven million Australians, has not detected any new cases of coronavirus since September 29. At the time, the app had found 14 unique cases in the community. That number has not changed since that time.

Sounds like great news for Australia, because it’s running rampant over here in the states, and with colder temperatures expected by the end of the week,
along our first snow of the season, it will only get worse.

In the meanwhile, Trump has completely given up on the pandemic

The White House never believed that you could control this pandemic. They gave up without a fight. The truth is: It was never a choice between the economy and public health. They were wrong.

Covid: Back to intensive care, where I notice one major change

Today, in this intensive care unit (ICU) at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne, only one of the five patients is on a ventilator. The others are sitting up, engaging with the nurses, reading or watching TV

Fauci says the US's record-high COVID-19 cases put it in a precarious position: 'No matter how you look at it, it's not good news'

When it comes to daily COVID-19 cases, the US is experiencing "the worst that we've ever had," Dr. Anthony Fauci said Monday during an interview with Yahoo Finance. The country hit new daily peaks on Friday and Saturday,
with reports of more than 80,000 new cases per day.

"Now we're at the highest baseline we've ever been, which is really precarious," the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the nation's top expert on the COVID-19 pandemic said.

    Giddy up, winter be coming

Coronavirus: Europe's daily deaths rise by nearly 40% compared with last week - WHO

Europe's daily Covid deaths rose by nearly 40% compared with the previous week, the World Health Organization (WHO) has told the BBC.

WHO spokeswoman Dr Margaret Harris said France, Spain, the UK, the Netherlands and Russia accounted for the majority of cases which increased by a third.

"The concern... is that intensive care units in hospitals are now beginning to fill with very ill people," she warned.

Russia reported a daily record of 320 deaths, pushing the tally to 26,589.

There has been a sharp increase in Italy too, with 221 fatalities announced in the past 24 hours. The total number of fatalities in Austria went above 1,000 on Tuesday.

Russia has the world's fourth highest number of Covid-19 cases after the US, India and Brazil. It recorded another 16,550 infections on Tuesday alone and authorities have now made the wearing of face masks compulsory in all crowded places.

While infections surged in Italy too, to almost 22,000 in the past 24 hours, officials said testing had also been ramped up. Protests took place in towns and cities across Italy on Monday evening against a new round of restrictions.

France and Germany announce partial lockdowns

Two of Europe's biggest economies have announced lockdowns in response to spiraling coronavirus case numbers.

France will begin a four-week lockdown on Friday, French President Emmanuel Macron said Wednesday.

His declaration came just hours after German Chancellor Angela Merkel also announced a four-week nationwide lockdown starting next Monday.

Macron announced the French measures in a televised address on Wednesday evening, saying existing restrictions were "not enough anymore." By mid-November, all intensive care beds could be taken by Covid-19 patients unless a "brake" is put on the virus, he warned.

A new coronavirus variant is seen spreading across Europe, research says

LONDON — A variant of the coronavirus that is believed to have originated in Spain has spread across Europe and now accounts for most of the new cases reported in several countries in the region, according to the findings of a new study.

The research, which is due to published on Thursday and has not been peer reviewed, details how an international team of scientists has closely monitored the coronavirus through its genetic mutations.

Each variant of the coronavirus has its own genetic signature, meaning it can be traced back to the place it first emerged.

It says a new variant of the disease, identified as 20A.EU1 by researchers from Switzerland and Spain, was first observed in Spain in June. The new variant has been recorded in Spain at frequencies of above 40% since July, the study said.

Elsewhere, the new variant of the coronavirus has increased from “very low” values prior to July 15 to 40% to 70% in Switzerland, Ireland, and the U.K. in September. It was also found to be prevalent in Norway, Latvia, the Netherlands, and France.
