Xi Jinping signals more aggressive response to epidemic.

Convening a second special meeting of the Communist Party’s top political body on Monday, China’s leader, Xi Jinping, signaled a more assertive strategy
for dealing with the coronavirus epidemic after days of seeming to retreat from center stage.

Mr. Xi dispatched the country’s No. 2 leader, Premier Li Keqiang, to Wuhan more than a week ago, when the death toll stood at 106. By Tuesday, the toll in China was more than 420 deaths,
and the government reported 20,438 confirmed cases — roughly 15,000 more than during the SARS outbreak, according to the World Health Organization.(WHO)

What book was that? I enjoyed reading Stephen King's The Stand. I wish it hadn't gotten into all that supernatural stuff though, I just thought it was interesting how human society came to a complete halt.

Should be "try to read" as in "You should try to read another book

or "reading" as in "You should try reading another book"

It's not correct anyway, read is a verb in that instance, you don't need a connecting conjunction

You should try swim over there
You should try to swim over there

    Two different meanings

Ok, theres definately something weird going on

We are up to 24,000 cases, 492 deaths

But only 2 of those outside China, 1 if you count Hong Kong as china

The good news is the mortality rate is only 2.1%, the bad news if everyone in China came down with the Coronavirus the death toll would amount to over 15.6 Millions

    Yeah, thanks for that

Spread pattern is certainly not making sense

If we all remember the zika microcephaly thing in Brazil in 2015. They still haven't worked out exactly why there were so many microcephaly cases in Northern Brazil. But factors that strongly correlated are the rate of zika infection itself and co-factors like a horse intestinal virus contaminating the water supply

    https://www.healio.com/pediatrics/e...xplains-microcephaly-rate-in-northeast-brazil

I'd say in Wuhan, there is definately some co-factor going on making the virus that much more virulent in that place at that particular time

Out for lunch now in the middle of the city

We still got every third person in Sydney wearing a face mask, even though we don't have a single case in the whole state (2 that had it were released last week)

    People eh?

    Update 2/6/20

China reports 73 people died on Wednesday, the highest since the coronavirus outbreak began late last year.

The death toll from the outbreak rose to 563 on Wednesday - recording another record daily increase in fatalities - as the government rushed to build new hospitals
and other countries moved to evacuate citizens and warned against all travel to China.

Most of the deaths were in Hubei, the province surrounding Wuhan, but there were three deaths elsewhere - in Tianjin and Heilongjiang in the northeast and Guizhou in the southwest.
