I don't think it's related to the cold virus, more like SARS. I remember that panic also.

 

Pneumonia would probably be the most apt comparison.

Which, according to my research, has a mortality rate between 5 - 10% for hospitalized patients. And kills 50,000 people in the US every year

And we're not trying to destroy an entire world economy over pneumonia

 

The white house continues to send mixed messages to the american people, and earlier today overruled the CDC in their announcement to alert the elderly not to fly.

With that said you know the situation is bad when the St Patrick’s Day Parade in South Boston is cancelled.

I wonder if he'll think it's still a hoax if he or or a member of his family comes down with the Coronavirus?

I the meanwhile he's probably hoarding toilet paper, Hand sanitizer, and surgical masks ~ Sigh~

I think that the end stage of the virus is pneumonia. As my public health professor at the U of Minn said in1965, pneumonia is the captain of the men of death. Covid19 leads to pneumonia in a significant percentage of both elderly and people with underlying health issues. I am in both categories.
Here Washington State we are taking it very seriously as the death toll in Kirkland keeps on escalating. This State is trying to slow the spread AND keep the incidence of the virus among the less at risk low enough so that those of us at risk have some change of escaping exposure.

For real though, I think that people just want to keep their employees safe, and that just has a trickle effect with mass transit especially international flying, and being in large, dense crowds. So, I get some of the panic, but it really has spiraled to the point where officials in NYC want to shut down the metro, and other forms of mass transit. I mean, is the world just going to stop?

The people who I feel for in addition to the elderly, etc...are nurses and doctors. They're coming in contact with it everyday, up close.
